Raised in a small central Illinois farming community on the Illinois River, Robert Hommel learned to love boats, cars hunting and fishing at an at an early age. The family business was Beardstown Mills, a flour and feed mill, which was of little interest. Immediately following graduation from the University of Illinois with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he went to work for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan.
With a short break to serve in the US Marine Corps, he progressed through the engineering, marketing and sales organization ranks at Ford and retired in 1995 as Chief Program Engineer for Truck Powertrains and the Econoline truck product line, having added a Masters Degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan and completed studies in business at Duke University and law at Detroit College of Law.
After Ford, Robert went to work for Navistar International Corporation, in Chicago Illinois (International Trucks and Engines) and sold diesel engines to original equipment vehicle manufactures, the marine industry and the military. After 12 years with Navistar he again retired and has been selling yachts in Michigan and Florida for four years. Robert is a licensed airplane pilot, USCG Captain and Florida Yacht Broker; he has five grown children and seven grandchildren.

As a lifetime boater and ex-marina owner, I appreciated the professional broker assistance Bob Hommel provided to help us find boats that met our desires, making offers and finally negotiating an exceptional deal for our 53’ Hatteras. He also lined up quality crew to get us out of the Great Lakes, followed our progress to Marathon, Florida and lined up mechanical assistance as needed.
Bob also worked with our attorney to get the boat registered and documented as we directed and promptly resolved a USCG lien issue that developed during that process.
