A sensible sail plan, minimum heel, and single handed sailing characteristics make the Beneteau Oceanis 35 a boat that fits you rather than the opposite. Join us as BoatTest.com takes a look at the features and accommodations on this innovative sailboat:

Hi, Elizabeth Soltes for BoatTest.com, and today we’re going to take a look at the features and accommodations of the Beneteau Oceanis 35. Beneteau’s “Your Boat, Your Rules” mantra carries into this 35-footer with multiple interior layout plans intended for day sails and weekend trips or extended cruises, with each offering each 2 or 3 sleeping cabins.

Such broad choices aren’t particularly common on this size boat, and they help the Oceanis fit a wide range of sailing and cruising preferences. This particular boat is the 2 stateroom weekender version with an added full galley and separate shower stall, which will likely prove to be a popular layout.

I really like the open layout of the Oceanis 35, and with the removal of this forward bulkhead, it really opens up the forward berth. While the open layout lacks privacy forward, wooden panels create a solid bulkhead here that can be added and removed at will.

With or without the bulkhead, the forward berth benefits from two large hullside windows. In fact, the whole interior is awash in light from 8 large windows and Beneteau’s light Alpi blonde oak accentuates the airy feel below. Curtains provide dockside privacy and block unwanted light. To overhead hatches include blackout shades and screens.

The berths throughout our Kabbani beige PVC material over firm but comfortable foam mattresses. Both the mattress and adjacent fabrics are easy to clean. Nighttime lighting throughout is both abundant and bright. Rather than encroach on this open space with hanging lockers, Beneteau provides hooks for hanging specially made Longchamp garment bags.

A large drawer adds permanent storage beneath the V-berth as well. From the large port side settee the stereo remote air conditioning controls and electronic panel are easily reached. Fiddles in the overhead lockers retain contents while on port tack, and cabinet doors form convenient flat work surfaces with these fitted stays.

The chart table provides a wide desktop along with a  reading light and spaces for electronics outboard. This soft close lid won’t slam and stays shut while underway.

Farther aft, the full height hanging locker includes a dead light that brings in daylight to help find stowed gear. Continuing aft this port side cabin includes two opening ports for cross-ventilation. The berth is noticeably wider than a household queen size bed and easily accommodates 2 adults.

This cabin includes a storage locker with 3 shelves as well as nighttime lighting. No-slip stair treads and leather-wrapped handrails on both sides of the companionway ensure safety.

Moving across the boat, Beneteau divides the head into a water closet with marine toilet, a sink, storage, plenty of light and ventilation and a large mirror behind the door. Entered separately, the large adjacent shower includes yet another opening port as well as a mirror, a shower bench and wet storage for shower items.

The galley is an example of the overall fine execution and fit and finish found throughout the Oceanis 35. The open interior makes the galley the center of entertaining. The large sink and high faucet aid galley cleanup, as such the self-opening trash bin beneath the sink.

The galley includes storage cabinets above the large countertop and a 34.3 gallon refrigerator below. The gimbaled stainless steel oven included in our expanded galley layout include sea rails on the 2-burner cooktop with more storage behind. Additional counter space forward with fiddles adds 3 more storage lockers below.

Standard on this cruising model, this table and extended seating can come and go at will to best suit each voyage. My overall impression of the interior on the Oceanis 35 is that of a comfortable, open living space flooded with natural light.

So that’s our features and accommodations review of the Oceanis 35. For BoatTest.com, I’m Elizabeth Soltes.
