Moonen Launches Fourth Moonen 97 Superyacht

Moonen Shipyards in the Netherlands recently launched their 4th yacht in its much admired range of Moonen 97 steel displacement megayachts. With sistership Livia (the third in the series) a finalist in the World Superyacht Awards, Moonen Yachts is confident that a buyer will soon be found for a yacht that is loaded with the latest technology.

“All the experiences gained by the yard and by the owners of the first 3 Moonen 97s have been integrated into number four,” says Emile Bilterijst, managing director of Moonen Shipyards. “She has a phenomenal interior from the boards of Artline that optimises storage and features a wealth of wide open spaces. Offering exceptional comfort at sea and anchor, a whisper-quiet performance and impeccable Moonen quality, the new Moonen 97 is surely the best of the series so far.”

The yacht offers spacious accommodations for 8 people in a neutral modern styling. “We have deliberately chosen for a contemporary cozy look that is sure to appeal to many people, while also retaining the air of luxury one would expect from a yacht of this standard, “ continues Bilterijst. “The fine cherry wood paneling is offset by accents in the decoration, including the subtle carpeting and leather surfaces on tables and cabinets. There is also a lovely synthesis of flowing and straight lines, which is a very natural way to shape an interior. Add in lots of natural and artificial light and you have an interior of distinction and class.”

Her full-beam Master Stateroom features an unusually large walk-in dressing room and the yacht also boasts an impressive VIP stateroom in addition to 2 guest suites.

The Moonen 97 also has good crew accommodation for a yacht of this size, making it easily adapted to the chartering market.

In terms of technology, materials, layout and aesthetics, she is state of the art. The Moonen 97 is the first to benefit from a new method of building in the pipe work in the accommodation areas. The core construction was spray-painted before the pipes were laid. As welding work was no longer possible in the pristine environment, composite pipes were used for drink and chilled water. The overall result is a higher quality and an even better look. In a similar vein, all the pipes in the engine room have been painted before being laid.

A comprehensive sound and vibration attenuation program is another major technical attribute. In addition to deploying the finest noise-absorbing insulation, Moonen has eliminated vibration at source by giving the highly skewed propeller 50 percent more clearance between the blade tip and hull surface. The Moonen 97 is also exceptionally comfortable at anchor thanks to the installation of advanced Naiad zero-speed stabilizers. Moonen is known for its impeccable engineering and construction, and this Lloyd’s Registered and MCA approved yacht once again proves why.

The Moonen 97 is styled by yacht designer René van Der Velden. Her sleek low-profile exterior features an elegant flared bow, a sloping stern with twin stairways, a graceful sheer line and bold fashion plates. Her round-bilged hull, designed by naval architect Diana Yacht Design, ensures superior seagoing comfort, while the economical shaping, and her steel constructions allows significant fuel tankage to give the Moonen 97 true transatlantic range.
