Golfito Marina Village And Resort To Open Soon

December 1, 2015 7:55 am

The first stage of the superyacht marina Golfito Marina Village & Resort is scheduled to enter operation in February 2016, Veronica Villegas, a project spokesperson, told Superyacht Business.

There has been $34 million invested into the project to date. Once completed, the approximately 40-acre site (16Ha) will be one of the newest first-class yachting, sportfishing, ecotourism and luxury resort destinations in the world.

“Golfito Marina Village & Resort will be a rarity and a transformative project for the town of Golfito as the area was previously inaccessible to superyachts and gigayachts. Golfito Marina Village & Resort will be part of an exclusive and very limited number of marinas across the globe that have been specifically designed to berth multiple yachts in the 350-foot (110-meter) range,” explains Villegas.

The marina is located in the historic Pacific town of Golfito, on the southern Pacific coast on Golfito Bay — about 550km north of the Panama Canal’s western entrance. It comprises private islands with villas, exclusive villa residences, an open-air spa, a flagged boutique hotel and a deep-water Blue Flag Marina with 132 private slips.

The resort is being developed by Hacienda El Dorado S.A. The company principals boast more than 35 years of industry experience in the United States and 12 years of recent activity in Costa Rica, having developed 11 successful projects in the neighbouring towns of Quepos and Manuel Antonio.

Captain Peter Harrison, a native of Brisbane, Australia, has been appointed dock master and general manager of marine operations at Golfito Marina Village and Resort.

Harrison international career includes more than 30 years in the maritime and yachting industries. In his new role, Harrison will be responsible for the development of new business as well as the implementation of marine services packages at Golfito Marina Village and Resort.

In addition, he will oversee the daily operations of the development¹s state-of-the-art marina, inclusive of vessel traffic services, marine procedures and safety and security services.
