Hatteras GT70 Features Walkthrough Video

May 25, 2017 9:29 am

Inside the Hatteras GT70, you’ll find a lavish interior, from the gourmet galley and spacious salon to the five-stateroom, four-head accommodations. In taking cues from the celebrated Hatteras style and legendary performance, the GT70 offers the ultimate tournament sportfishing platform.

Join us as BoatTest.com takes a look at the features on this premium sportfish yacht:

The following opinions are solely those of BoatTest.com and its test captain.

Hi, Capt. Steve for BoatTest.com, and today we’ll be conducting a features inspection of the newest flagship of the Hatteras line, the GT 70. She’s a 5-stateroom 4-head yacht with a fit and finish that carries with it a distinct wow factor. But first and foremost, this is an offshore fishing machine, so let’s start with the fishing features.

We’ll begin in the cockpit where we measured eight-and-a-half feet by 16 feet of deck space and with the seating we’re looking at roughly 200 square feet. There is a Release Marine 130 unlimited premium level fighting chair, fully adjustable and loaded with rod holders taking center stage. More rod holders are to the sides of the cockpit, on the tower supports and across the back of the flying bridge.

Teak decking is the route and both cap rails and bulwarks are in unfinished teak. The shaded mezzanine seating provides a place to relax and watch the lines and the extended overhead 8-feet 6-inches off the mezzanine deck, provides ample protection.

With flesh cushioning these seats feel great and armrests to both sides have integrated beverage holders, along with the floating armrest that can be moved about as desired. Storage is underneath, overhead are air-conditioning vents and to the starboard side is a nav repeater that can show charting on the way out and bottom graph on site.

Aside from the area keeping non-essential personnel out of the way when the action starts, it also keeps bait in the insulated boxes out of the sun. Two drink holders are in the stairs. There’s a chipped ice maker to port and if desired this can feed directly into the fish locker.

Just above is tackle storage, and notice the drawers are on stainless sliders. Above that is a grill for cooking up the catch of the day.

Moving aft there’s a transom fish locker that could be optioned out for divided livewell, a tuna door to starboard and we found it a little hard to open and it could use a latch to hold it open.

Lastly, to starboard we have the 100 amp shore connections on a cord reel, dockside water inlet and the fresh water washdown. To port is a 15 amp connection and raw water washdown. Heading to the flybridge we ascend the athwartship ladder, which in our opinion is safe to use in a sloppy sea way than a more conventional forward-facing one.

Interior stairs can be added as an option. Again we have the rod holders and for additional fishing features, electric teaser spools are recessed into the overhead, and both outriggers are hydraulically controlled and measure a full 50-feet in length. Seatbacks are removable to get a better view of the cockpit when backing down on a fish.

Still higher, the GT 70 has a tower worthy of its flagship status. We estimated the tower height at 40 feet, which means that the elevation brings the distance to the horizon out to nearly 8 miles. Multiple levels of electronics are available for this elevated helm and both the panel and side frames are painted black to remove glare from the equation.

Buyers can also choose from this bench seat or a leaning post, both providing the use of the cockpit. Plumbing runs from the water pump to the tower, so there’s no need to schlep a hose up here for cleaning.

Moving to the gathering areas, we will return to the flying bridge. Here, we have seating that wraps around the perimeter of the bridge deck and still more as a head of the console for guests to face each other when socializing. Seat backs to the side lounges are reversible, so guests can choose to watch the view ahead or behind.

All seats have storage underneath, and Hatteras included several insulated coolers that are a welcome addition for long offshore trips. But we’d also like to see an option for something along the lines of a wet bar that would be more suited towards guest entertainment rather than dedicated storage.

The salon is the next gathering area, and as soon as one steps to the electrically opening sliding door, the feeling of luxury becomes almost overwhelming. Hatteras stuck to its roots, it kept the classic teak look, that in this case is dressed in high gloss finish.

The joinery work is first-rate and each piece of wood is expertly joined for a perfect blend from one to the next. And there’s an amazing amount of customization taking place throughout.

With the galley and dining area forward, more room is left for the full-beam salon, and Hatteras was able to give it an open feel this way. An L-shaped sofa wraps around the rear starboard section with the entertainment center and a cabinet to port that includes a TV on an electric lift, automatically actuating when the power is turned on.

A custom salon table has top that lifts and moves laterally to become an impromptu dining area, an ice maker is at the forward end of the sofa and rod storage is underneath the cushions. Overhead – fabric ceiling panels are highlighted with wood accents matching the cabinetry.

The galleys place forward into port on the main deck with the dining settee set opposite to starboard. An island with to fixed pedestal stools serves as a bar/dining counter and houses the multiple refrigerator and freezer drawers.

The sink is recessed into the counter, a garage door style cabinet conceals the microwave above, there’s a 4-burner ceramic cooktop below. Flooring is synthetic wood, headroom measures in at 6 feet 7 inches.

Moving below decks, the GT 70 features a standard 5-stateroom forehead layout. All cabins feature plenty of room and high overheads that all will find comfortable and roomy. As we head below, the carpeted stairway is lighted, the master is immediately to starboard with the guest just across.

Next is a doorway housing the stacked washer and dryer. Then beyond is the day head with walk-in shower. Just ahead is this cedar-lined rod locker supplemented by the overhead rod storage just outside the door, and both serve to remind us that Hatteras never forgets what the principal mission of this battle wagon is – fishing.

Finally, fully forward is the VIP with private head. Let’s look at them one at a time. The ensuite master stateroom has the king-size berth mounted athwartships against the outside bulkhead. The quality wood work continues of course. Cedar-lined walk-in closet is to one side of the berth while an armoire and the head is forward.

Inside the head, a mirrored ceiling leads to mirrored cabinet surrounded by wood. The countertops and shower bench seat are marble, a separate walk-in shower is adjacent, the toilet flushes with fresh water and an indicator light shows when the holding tank reaches three-quarters of its capacity.

Moving all the way ahead to the forward VIP, this stateroom features an island berth and the usual accommodations for storage, both overhead, to the sides and below the berth. Hanging lockers are to the sides as well.

The head is almost a mirror image of the master head. Back towards the stairs, the first guest stateroom is across from the master and features over/under berths with the upper able to close off Pullman style.

And lastly, there are two more guest staterooms aft, both with Pullman berths and they’re separated by a head. These let themselves to crew use as the door to the engine room is at the back of the head.

With the launch of the GT 70, Hatteras continues with its serious mindset about competing in the offshore fishing arena. This boat delivers comfort, excellent handling and premium level fit and finish that a yacht of this caliber demands.

In our opinion, the GT 70 delivers, and that’s our full inspection of the GT 70 from Hatteras. For BoatTest.com, I’m Capt. Steve. We’ll see you on the water.
