38 Cabo Flybridge Review

Australia’s first Cabo 38 Flybridge was recently delivered to its local distributor – Gold Coast based Game & Leisure Boats (GLB), and according to the company’s director, Graham McCloy, one astute purchaser is going to pick up an absolute bargain.

“Due to a strong Aussie dollar and special introductory factory bonuses, this fully-cocked fishing machine is available at the not to be repeated drive away price of just $940,000,” said McCloy.

“That’s a landed cost in Australian dollars by the way and includes CAT C12 diesels at 715hp a side, C-Fab hardtop, clears, Rupp outriggers, Reelax 130lb game chair, Garmin 15in touchscreen plotter and sounder, and importantly, it’s fully wired for 240V shore power,” he said.

According to the distributor, while many US boat builders have gone into hibernation during the recent economic downturn, Cabo Yachts continues to release new models with the backing of parent company, Brunswick Corporation, whose size gives certainty of continued support for potential boat buyers in uncertain times.

The Cabo 38 Flybridge shares the same Michael Peters hull design as the 38 Express. With an LOA of more than 40ft (12.2m), 4.57m beam and lightship displacement of 12,700kg, this is a big 38 and features such as prop tunnels, sharp entry, huge bow flare and 17-degree transom dead rise all translate to a great sea boat that provides a smooth, dry ride, said GLB.

Like all Cabos the 38 Flybridge is a quick boat with a 36kts top speed thanks to its C12 powerplants. Being quick is one thing, but being able to run quickly and comfortably offshore is another. That’s where Cabo stand out from the crowd, it said.

The cockpit and flybridge on the 38 are designed specifically with the offshore fisherman in mind, with the cockpit featuring underfloor fishboxes, transom livewell and outward opening transom door while the flybridge provides excellent vision and plenty of dash space to mount big screen electronics.

While Cabo build arguably the world’s best fishing boats, the 38 Flybridge does cater for those with a penchant for cruising as well, and accommodation includes a master stateroom with double berth, a guest stateroom with two single bunks and a spacious head to starboard. At saloon level you’ll find a large lounge and dinette and fully functional galley.
