Carver’s 444 Motor Yacht is the newest addition to the Carver fleet. Its twin 370-hp Cummins really get this cruiser rolling, and once underway she is a good performer with a stable ride thanks to her 14-foot beam. The 444 is a fully functional yacht sporting plenty of space, a good turn of speed, and all the comforts of home.

Carver’s new 2001 444 Motor Yacht is actually based on the company’s 396 Motor Yacht, with a new cockpit added on so you can take full advantage of all water sports activities.

The 444’s sharp entry, subtle flare at the sheer line forward and flattened aft section practically guarantee a smooth ride—and there’s an efficient non-slip surface that will give you confidence when the decks do get wet.

What makes it all happen is a pair of 370-hp Cummins diamond edition diesels. These in-line 6’s have a relatively narrow envelope, which saves big space in the engine room. Walker Airseps keep the space clean, and the turbochargers provide plenty of torque in the mid-range. The fuel and oil filters are easily reached for servicing, as are the dipsticks.

Out on the water, the 444 turned in a top speed of 32.5 mph at 3000 rpm, with a best cruise of more than 27 mph at just 250 rpm off wide-open throttle. Given her fuel burn rate of just 28.6 gallons per hour at best cruise, she’ll go for nearly 300 miles on a fill up, and we found that control around the docks was very precise. With plenty of space, a good turn of speed, and all the comforts of home, this Carver really is a great introduction to the new millennium.

Well appointed salon with many extras.

Carver has created a “great room” aboard the 444 by combining the salon and galley. The salon has cherry wood bulkheads, cabin try and trim and offers an entertainment center with TV/VCR.

The master stateroom has good live aboard room.

The master stateroom is located aft and features a queen-sized berth and a convenient sliding door out into the cockpit. Your guests will feel at home aboard the 444. The guest stateroom is forward and features a queen-sized berth, private head, good storage space, and cedar-lined hanging lockers.
