Grand Banks Yachts

Grand Banks Yachts, which began in 1956 as American Marine, was founded by Rob Newton. At their boatyard on Junk Bay in Hong Kong, Newton and his sons built heavy sailboats and big motor yachts. In 1963, the Newtons began producing the first line of Grand Banks, the yachts for which they are most known. The iconic design is recognized worldwide as the Grand Banks Heritage Series, the leading trawler-yacht for over 50 years.

About Grand Banks Yachts

Robert J. Newton founded Grand Banks Yachts, which began as American Marine, Ltd., in 1956. Newton and his sons operated a boatyard on Junk Bay in Hong Kong, building heavy sailboats and big motor yachts. In 1963, the Newtons began producing the first line of Grand Banks.

The iconic design is recognized worldwide as the Grand Banks Heritage Series, the leading trawler-yacht for over 50 years. It was first built of wood, then of fiberglass at the Singapore factory in 1973. The Downeast Cruiser, or lobster boat, launched in 1993 and belongs to Grand Banks’ Eastbay Series, capturing style with the Ray Hunt design, teak toe rails, dark blue hull with a bright gold strip, and a powerful pair of diesels.
