72 Hatteras Motoryacht Review

Want a new reason to go big?

The new Hatteras 72 Motoryacht is scheduled to be available this fall and looks to give boaters plenty of reasons to consider going big.

One of the main features of the 72 is a 174-square-foot flybridge deck with a centerline helm station. A boat like this is made for entertaining, and a spacious flybridge with plenty of comfortable seating ensures all your passengers will get the best view on the water. Standard entertainment amenities include a bar, a refrigerator and an ice-maker — an optional electric grill is also available.

The captain will appreciate two adjustable helm chairs from Pompanette as well as a standard electronics suite that includes a Northstar 6000i GPS/plotter, an Icom VHF, a Simrad AP25 autopilot and a Simrad IS15 depth and temperature indicator.

The 72’s 20-foot, 2-inch beam leaves plenty of room for 12-inch sidedecks, which makes this an easy boat for a cruising couple to handle. Molded into the main deck forward is a large sunpad that converts into a seat.

The standard main salon features a large starboard lounge and a formal dining table for six to port. Aft to port is a space for an optional sunken bar, which is also where you’ll find access to the engine room and aft stateroom/crew quarters.

All the way forward up a step is a full-service galley with granite counters and top-shelf appliances. The standard layout includes a dinette forward to port, which can be replaced with a lower helm station. Other options here include a day head and a sliding door to separate the galley and salon.

One deck below is the full-beam master stateroom and a choice of two or three additional staterooms forward. The master stateroom features a king bed, a walk-in closet and optional his and hers heads with a shower. Equipped with a pair of 1,550 hp Caterpillar C-32 diesels, the Hatteras 72 Motoryacht should be capable of a cruising speed of 22 knots with a range of 375 nautical miles and a top speed of 25 knots.
