2013 Norwalk In-Water Boat Show Opens in Connecticut

The 2013 in-water Progressive Insurance Norwalk (Connecticut) Boat Show started yesterday (Thursday) and runs through Sunday at Norwalk Cove Marina.

A 93′, $9.6 million Benetti Delfino with 5 staterooms will be the largest yacht on display and the six-time world champion Miss Geico Racing Team will introduce its newest offshore racing boat, a 50-foot Victory catamaran made of lightweight carbon/kevlar and featuring a 12′ beam, in addition to the many other boats and accessories on display.

Jonathan Hillstrand, of the Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch,” will be on hand for meet-and-greets during designated hours Friday through Sunday.

The “Try It Cove” will feature free and paid classes, including stand-up paddling and kayaking, as well as free demonstrations of Sealegs amphibious vehicles; powerboating on Long Island Sound aboard a 240 Sundeck, courtesy of Rex Boat Club; and free sailboat rides on the Sound aboard a 23 Ensign or a Hanse 400, compliments of the Sound Sailing Center.

Fred’s Shed Interactive Learning Center will help DIY boaters interested in maintaining, repairing or upgrading boat engines through free daily seminars and talk-show format clinics hosted by marine service technician Fred, also known as “The Boating Guy.”

Certified instructors with the Coast Guard will give one-hour and three-hour on-the-water workshops as part of the Discover Boating skills training effort.

The Annapolis School of Seamanship will hold 30-minute sessions covering topics that include diesel engine basics, GPS navigation and fishing techniques.
