Sailing Santa Brings Toys and Joy to Kids in Caribbean

September 28, 2018 2:25 pm

The Sailing Santa Program was started last year in the wake of Hurricane Irma/Maria by full-time cruisers Mark and Tracey Duckett. They were running aid on their catamaran from Grenada to the affected areas and, on one of the trips, realized one of the best ways to make a difference was to bring Christmas to the kids of the Caribbean.

The couple made drops last year in Dominica, Guadeloupe, St. Martin, Virgin Gorda, Tortola, and Jost Van Dyke, with a plan in 2018 to start hitting Dominica, before heading to St. Martin and the Virgin Islands.

Hoping to support their efforts, members of our team came up with the idea to hold a toy drive at the Denison Yachting booth during the upcoming Annapolis Sailboat Show, from October 4 – 8. The Denison booth will be located near the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel entrance in Tent O (Oscar) 20.

We’re looking for basic toys such as: dolls, action figures, sporting goods, coloring books, crayons, school supplies, etc. (nothing that requires electricity or battery power, and toys under $15 USD are preferred).

Each person who donates to the toy drive will be entered into a raffle offering some great prizes.

Prizes include:

A Body Glove Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board

Denison Yachting Swag Bag, and Four boat show tickets to any North American Boat Show of your choice

Mack Sails Swag Bag, including Yeti tumblers, shirts and hats

If you’re unable to attend the show and would like to still help, please check out the Sailing Santa GoFundMe page. Email Wiley@denisonyachtsales.com a copy of your donation for entry into the raffle.

Thanks for your support!
