EXCESS Giving Away New Catamaran To Challenge Winner

December 3, 2018 9:24 am

Following the launch of Groupe Beneteau’s new line of EXCESS Catamarans at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, the company is setting out on a broad-scale project, perhaps the first of its kind in the nautical world: a general public competition with a boat up for grabs, called the EXCESS Challenge.

The game, similar to a virtual regatta, will take place as a virtual sailing record, single-handed or in four-person crews, with three prizes available to the winners:

  1. A catamaran worth roughly $340,000 (for solo category finishers)
  2. A catamaran rental for one week (for the team category finishers)
  3. One week’s cabin cruise (open to all contestants)

Contestants will set sail from Barcelona and attempt to win the record by taking real-time weather conditions into consideration. The course will take you to Cannes via Menorca, sailing by the north of Sardinia. Like in all great sailing records, racers must choose the right weather window. By participating, each contestant will enter a drawing from which the winner will be picked after the record results are all in at the end of August 2019.

  1. Registrations begin on December 8 at 10 a.m. (during the 2018 Nautic Paris Boat Show)
  2. Contestants can register on the EXCESS brand website, at the entrance of the Nautic Show (Hall 1) as well as at the January Düsseldorf show on the EXCESS stand
  3. Registration costs roughly $6 (5 euros) from December to the end of January, and then about $10 (9 euros) after the Düsseldorf show [The race period will start during the Düsseldorf show]

Denison will be adding a giveaway of our own to the mix. RSVP below to enter a drawing for a day sailing charter in Miami or Los Angeles (winner can choose location).

Please note: Entry into the Denison giveaway does not qualify as entry into the EXCESS Challenge.
