Italian Shipyard Tour Recap [Viareggio + La Spezia]

June 19, 2019 10:26 am

Last Saturday, 10 Denison superyacht representatives traveled to Italy for our Annual Shipyard Tour. They arrived on Sunday and stayed in the village of Lerici. Ben Farnborough gave us a detailed recount of their tour and we’re happy to share their 5-day itinerary for you to enjoy.

Day One: San Lorenzo Shipyard Tour

Our team kicked off the tour Monday morning with a warm welcome from the San Lorenzo team at their Cantieri Navali di La Spezia facility. We were presented with San Lorenzo’s current projects, availability, and pricing then toured the superyacht division of the facility. We were able to board and tour the latest 500Exp 47m Expedition yacht and the 64’ Steel Attila “THE FLAGSHIP”.

Being the #2 builder in the world, they build in two locations. Of course, our team had to tour both. After lunch, we visited the Cantieri Navali di Viareggio location where they construct composite yachts.

After a long and enjoyable day with San Lorenzo, our team made their way back to Lerici and had a special team dinner.

Day Two: Italian Sea Group + Baglietto Shipyard Tour

On the second day, the team had the pleasure of touring Italian Sea Group’s facilities. Part of the shipyard includes a newly built and truly impressive crew facility called the Village featuring a spa and gym for crew members and others. Equally or more impressive was boarding a recently built Evo 120’.

After our yacht tour, we visited the rest of the facility and ended with a fascinating presentation.

From there, we made the journey to Baglietto where they were warmly welcomed by the CEO. While we weren’t able to board any yachts, they toured the facility and saw various new-build projects.

After leaving Baglietto, a portion of our Denison team chartered a rib to Portovenere, a beautiful medieval village believed to date back to at least the middle of the 1st century BC.

Day Three: Benetti Shipyard Tour

The third day was spent entirely with the team at Benetti in Viareggio, the original facility of Benetti founded in 1873. Denison’s team was excited to tour this facility, especially since Benetti has held #1 in yacht construction globally for 19 years. Our team was welcomed by a large team of Benetti senior executives and were able to board the 116’ Medierraneo recent launch. After a tour, they traveled to Benetti’s other facility in Livorno. They enjoyed lunch at the facility, toured the yard, and witnessed three 100+ meter yachts in the water which are scheduled for delivery in the next 100 days.

Our day ended in Lerici with a hearty pizza dinner followed by an on-location edition of “Coffee With Bob” with broker and guest @yachtslinger.

Day Four: Rossinavi and Overmarine

On Thursday, the team had the pleasure of meeting the Rossi family of the builder Rossinavi. We toured the Viareggio based facility, enjoyed a presentation, and ate a delightful lunch with the Rossinavi team there.

From there, we traveled to Pisa where we visited Overmarine, builders of the Mangusta yacht line. A presentation and tour were enjoyed by the team before touring the recently launched 45-meter project, Capri.

Day Five: Codecasa and Perini Navi

In Viareggio, the team met with builder Codecasa and had the immense pleasure of touring their incredible facility and enjoyed a presentation and meeting with the Codecasa team.

After a morning there, we went to Perini Navi’s facility located in Viareggio. We were able to tour the famous model room and enjoyed a presentation on the company’s history and projects. From there, we toured the build facilities and had lunch at the Perini Navi Club Room.

Our Denison team then made our way to the Perini Navi facility located in La Spezia, where we were able to see two 56-meter motor yachts currently in build.
