Trawler Yacht Sales Strong in Second Quarter

Sales of trawler yachts were strong in the second quarter of 2017. From April through June, 440 trawlers were sold, an increase of 5% over the 2Q of last year and a huge 48% increase over the first quarter of 2017.

One-quarter of the sales were in the Southeast region of the U.S., followed closely by 107 in the Pacific Northwest.

Almost half of the trawlers were between 30-39’ (194), and 162 were between 40-49’, accounting for 80% of all trawlers sold in the second quarter. The most popular brand by far was Grand Banks, with 47 sold, followed by Mainship, Nordic Tug, Ranger Tug and Marine Trader, with 45, 26, 21 and 20 trawlers sold, respectively.

Almost one-third were built between 2000-2009 (133), and 130 were built from 1980-1989. There was a 48% increase in the number of boats sold that were newer than 2010, with every other year staying the same or decreasing.

The vast majority (322) sold for less than $250,000, and at the other end of the spectrum, 11 sold for over $1 million. The most expensive trawler sold was a 73′ Outer Reef 2008 long-range motoryacht, which sold for $1,850,000.

During the quarter, 74 trawlers sold for $250,000-$499,999 and 23 sold for $500,000-$749,999. More trawlers were sold in every price range over $250,000, with fewer boats being sold only in the under-$250,000 price range. Some notable trawler sales at Denison during the second quarter included the 45′ Selene Trawler ALTER EGO and QUALITY TIME, a stunning 2010 78′ Marlow.
