Albemarle Boats Owner Buys Carolina Classic in North Carolina

Scott McLaughlin, a North Carolina businessman and the owner of Albemarle Boats, acquired Carolina Classic Boats. Albemarle and Carolina Classic, both located in Edenton, N.C., will unite to build sportfishing yachts ranging in size from 24′ – 41′. The terms of the deal have not been released.

“Over the past two-and-a-half years Albemarle and Carolina Classic Boats have developed a healthy working relationship, and we came to realize that the two companies have a lot more in common than they have differences,” McLaughlin said in a statement. “In this economy, it made perfect sense to consolidate under one ownership, share our expertise and resources and ultimately make both companies and their product lines stronger.”

Albemarle Boats and Carolina Classic will remain independent brands with separate yacht dealer networks.

“As I got to know Scott and the vision that he had for Albemarle Boats, I quickly realized that his ideas about how we could work together would preserve Carolina Classic and allow us to be stronger in the future,” Carolina Classic founder Mac Privott said in a statement. “By sharing our best practices, utilizing both facilities and strengthening our buying power we will be able to provide a better product for our customers.”

Privott and his family will remain at Carolina Classic Boats.
