34 Sunseeker Superhawk Review

Source: Ray Sargoood, Motor Boat & Yachting

If you feel the need for speed then Sunseeker’s Superhawk 34, capable of up to 45 knots, will be your idea of GRP heaven

For: There are touches of genius within the design and she goes like a rocket

Against: The Superhawk’s sleek lines will cost you in accommodation space

As a sportsboat rather than a cruiser, Sunseeker consciously designed the 34 with a narrow beam and very sleek lines. This certainly enhances its performance and sets it apart from the competition, but you pay for it in cabin space.

Down below the sleeping arrangements are not ideal. A permanent double berth forward is great for two but if you have guests aboard, they sleep at your feet on the converted saloon seating, and all within the same cabin.

The galley is small but fairly complete. As for the toilet and shower room facilities – unless you are a young child – you will find showering while standing is more Mission Impossible than James Bond.

The cockpit is an entirely different story and far more accommodating, with plenty of seating and an abundance of space for up to eight people.

If you want a boat that outguns nearly every craft around then the Superhawk 34 was made just for you. To say that the Superhawk is fast, is an understatement: from standstill she is capable of passing 10 knots within eight seconds. The steering and movement is light and nimble and able to circle in just a few boats’ length.

If you want it all, then the Superhawk is not for you. In much the same way, you would never buy a used Aston Martin, when a Mondeo estate offers better loading space and cruising economy. What the Superhawk does have in abundance is feel good factor and excellent performance – here it excels.

Verdict

The 34 was never meant to be ‘all things to all men’. Instead, it accomplishes what it set out to do admirably, and can wear the sporty Sunseeker badge with pride.
