This move is part of the yard’s 3-year plan that started in 2009 and which will see all 3 sectors of the Vicem yacht range being built at the 2 Vicem facilities in this region.
The 2 sites at Antalya cover nearly 323,000’² (30,000m²) and form part of the new yacht-building facility developed by the Turkish government that has been designed to bring new employment to this region of Turkey. These facilities provide Vicem Yachts with its first onwater building facility, which has enabled the yard to move into the building of superyachts.
Vicem Yachts has been building its classic wooden lobster style motor yachts in a facility near Tusla, Turkey for many years. These cold molded motor yachts have grown in sizes up to 90′ long and they have been primarily aimed at the U.S. market, although recently Vicem has been opening up to European markets. These classic designs which form the Vintage range from Vicem are now supplemented by the Vulcan and Vanguard lines of motor yachts with the high performance Vanguard open motor yachts being introduced as recently as the 2010 Düsseldorf International Boat Show.
Much of the focus at Antalya is on the Vulcan range that currently comprises three super yacht designs, a 104′ (32m) raised pilothouse, a 114′ (35m) trideck mega yacht and the flagship Vulcan 150′ (46m). The hull for this 46m is being moulded in what is claimed to be the longest female mould in the world. This hull has been designed by Frank Mulder and the interior styling is by Art Line. This mega yacht will have a 4,000-mile range at 12 knots to give her true ocean-going capabilities.
All 3 of these super yachts from Vicem are scheduled for delivery later in 2011.
Also under construction at Antalya is the Vintage 105, which will be the largest yacht in the wooden motor yacht range and one of the largest wooden motor yachts in the world.
The CEO of Vicem Yachts, Alberto Perrone da Zara, says: “I am proud to be at the head of one of the few yards that is facing up to the challenge of these difficult times in the international nautical sector. Vicem is concentrating its production at Antalya in the constant search for increasing overall production efficiency and is benefitting from the attractive labour costs, a favourable fiscal environment and direct access to the sea.”
