Yacht Walkthrough: Sea Ray L590 Motoryacht

December 19, 2018 9:13 am

I’m Chris Ollis with Denison Yachting and today I’m going to walk you through this 2017 L590 by Sea Ray. The boat is powered by triple Cummins 8.3 600 horse diesels, coupled to Zeus pods. There are three things that I really love about this boat.

The first is just the ease of maneuverability for a 60’ boat. There are two docking stations, one in the cockpit which is an option on this particular boat that really just make moving in and around the docks just a breeze.

The second thing that I really like about this boat is the gorgeous skylight above the salon is huge and opens up to at night bring in the stars or, if you wish during the day, to bring in the sunlight.

And finally the layout of the bow. There’s a nice big sunpad which you’re going to find on most boats this size, but then just behind that separated by a deep walkway is a settee that’ll seat three or four people with a nice padded backrest, for people who want to enjoy some time up there underway or spending time in the sun.

We’re going to start today’s walkthrough here on the hydraulic swim platform which is located just behind the cockpit. There are chalks and storage for the 11’ Boston Whaler tender with a 25-horsepower Mercury four stroke outboard. Then stepping up a couple of steps into the cockpit on port side, you’ll find a joystick docking station which is an option on this boat. Just beneath the docking station, there is an access door to where your two 50-inch shore power cords come into the boat and both of those are handled by Glendinning Cablemasters.

On port and starboard, for line handling, are these quick power windlasses. Just forward of this area is the wet bar that has a sink and a disappearing grill and just below that a refrigerator. On top of the bar is a swivel mounted LCD TV. Finishing out the cockpit is this nice big L-shaped settee and under here is one of the two access points to the engine room, this particular one to the aft area.

As we step from the cockpit into the salon, you pass through these beautiful polished stainless opaque mori doors. One of the great features of these doors is you could slide them all the way to the right or all the way to the left. If you push them all the way left, all three panels disappear. And in this position, you have access to this disappearing end table that fills the space between the indoor sofa and the outdoor settee.

Standing in the salon, it becomes evident why this is the L Class: L meaning “Luxury.” To starboard is this plush ultra-leather sofa. Beneath the aft section, is a pullout double bed. Across from this area is the entertainment center. With a Samsung LCD TV, an isotherm wine cooler, Onkyo sound system as well as KBH satellite TV. Directly in front of this is the galley area. Here we have over-and-under refrigerator/freezers a pair of them, a Kenyan cooktop, stainless sink and a concealed Cuisinart microwave. Adjacent to the galley and just behind the helm seating is this dinette area which gives the feel of a country kitchen.

Just in front of the dinette area are these twin Stidd beside and series helm seats. And this brings us to the helm station. The helm station is very cleanly laid out with these twin Raymarine flat-screen displays, separated by the Mercury SmartCraft system. Just to the right of the captain’s seat are the Mercury engine controls. Directly behind that is the joystick. On the left side of the dash is my favorite, the skylight control.

Six steps down from the helm station is the living area. All the way aft, we step into the full-beam master. This stateroom features an offset queen bed to starboard and a sitting area to port, along with a dressing station. One of the things that I love about the master cabin is this beautiful walnut wall covering. Stepping out of the master to port, we have an ensuite head and separate enclosed shower. Just forward of that is a well-laid out vanity area. Stepping across the hallway to starboard is a guest cabin with two twin beds and a separate washer and dryer. All the way forward is a VIP cabin, also with an ensuite head. There’s a second door which doubles as dayhead access.

Finally, we’re going to end today’s walkthrough on the bow. It can be accessed on port or starboard with nice high railings and plenty of hand holds everywhere to make you feel safe when moving forward. Forward of the sunpad and the seating on the bow is a powerful quick windlass with the control at the helm and also foot controls.
