So right now we’re on the Fisher Island Ferry headed to Fisher Island which is one of the more exclusive places on the planet. It’s touted as being the wealthiest zip code here in America. It is what creates the actual cut here into Miami. There’s two marinas in there and we’re going to go check out a 72 Princess called LADY Y.

I’m Will Noftsinger with Denison Yachting. Let’s go check her out. Important to remember that this boat was constructed in 2012. So as we’re going through, you’re going to see a lot of what was at the time very innovative, novel ideas like this forward entertaining area. Most boats prior only had the sunpads that you see in front. You get a little cabana, a nice seating area, and a place you can sit back and relax. And these are ratcheting backrests so you can have a chase style lounge.

foredeck

As we walk forward, we’ve got our ground tackle here. There’s also something I really like to see a dedicated washdown which is really nice to have. Something else to point out that’s pretty cool up here is this oversized escape hatch that gives you a great spotlight set up in the VIP which we’ll check out later on.

As we’re heading back, this is excellent storage. Right now we’ve got all the covers in here. But it is all the way through to the other side with another access point over there. We’re going to cruise down the port side to the app deck and check out our flybridge. So right here as we’re walking back in this step is our fuel fill and there’s also one on the other side. So let’s uh head up these stairs and check out that flybridge.

Lady Y

We’re going to start today back here and then work our way forward. In the aft, we’ve got our davit. This Opacmare takes your jet ski, drops it in the water, you remove these stanchions gives you a little extra clearance. Just ford of the davit we’ve got our lounging area. This is a nice space to get some sun and underneath, it’s got tons of storage so it comes in handy to have. When you’re on a flybridge class boat, you’re really looking for space up here and it’s important to get all the features that you’d expect. This one’s got it.

We start here with the bar with a sink, refrigerator and even a grill and all the stuff you’re going to need to service this area across from it which is really your entertainment spot. Got tons of seating, an expandable table, it really makes this flybridge incredible. All the soft goods out here were done in 2018 and they’re in excellent shape. So in this U-shaped seating, everybody can hang out and be entertained. And then just across we’ve got our upper helm station which is a pretty impressive upper helm station. We’ve got an actuating control panel here. So all your electronics stay out of the elements, got our steering wheel, side power bow, and stern thruster, then we’ve got two ST60 autopilot monitors. So you’ve got some redundancy.

Just next to that is our arc spotlight and then a fire boy system which hopefully you’re never going to need. As we work this way we’ve got our Bennett trim tabs, CAT controls, two CAT displays, and then we’ve got our E140 Raymarine hybrid touch.

fly bridge

Driving from here is an absolute joy. Everything falls right to hand and then this bucket-style seating, when you’re doing 30-35 knots, you really feel like you’re in a sports car. They’re adjustable so if you’re in the passenger seat you can get out really easy. So this alarm that you’re hearing is just indicating that this is retracting back. But how cool is this, just at the push of a button you keep the sleek low profile that with a hard top you kind of loses. It’s a really nice feature, especially on a great day when you’re running offshore.

From here let’s check out the cockpit stepping down here into the cockpit, we’re going to start on the starboard side with this backdown station. This is complete with all your controls, throttles, bow and stern thruster, engine start and stop and there’s even a windlass control that I don’t think you’re going to use too much. But it is here. It’s got a great line of sight, so when you dock you can see every point of the boat well placed.

cockpit

Just below that backdown station, we’ve got all of our emergency shutdown controls and valves and then a little bit of storage forward of that. Access to the engine room, it’s not the primary but it is secondary. Then we’ve got our typical seating area here with an expandable table, U-shaped seating.

To port and starboard we’ve got mirror images when it comes to the docking situation, got a little locker here for your lines, cleats, a windlass with a foot control here and then a Euro-style transom so you’ve got access with a gate both to port and starboard down to the transom. We’ve got a dedicated life wrap space here on either side in lieu of having them on a hardtop where you usually find them. So like we talked about these are mirror images and we’ve got the same life wrap situation going on here and the only difference is this little sink basin that’s located here on the port side. Before we head in I’ll point out our hydraulic swim platform controls and the passerelle controls here.

Let’s head inside and check out the interior of LADY Y. As we step in, we’ve got a great size salon with big windows and as you can see behind me, this slides over and gives the outside access in and really unites the two spaces. Over here to port, we’ve got the pop-up TV, great to catch a movie. If there’s inclement weather or you guys just want to hang out and relax. As we move forward, you’ll see that this entire salon is super open and you’re going to catch all the decor that Princess is kind of known for, modern but also coupled with a nice touch of traditional, so the boat really stays timeless.

salon

Over here on the port side, we’ve got our formal dining area, and then adjacent on the starboard, we’ve got our galley. And it’s a really cool galley, they did a lot of nice things giving you this U-shaped space, excellent prep area, feels safe underway and you’re still able to partition this space with a push of a button.

So in this galley space, we’ve got again excellent prep area with tons of storage underneath, our stovetop, oven; both by Miele, sink basin here with hot and cold water, and then all the way forward, we’ve got our refrigerator/freezer on a stack configuration. Two key features you don’t usually see on a boat this size, a full dishwasher and a dedicated ice maker here. Adding to our cold storage over here on the port side, we’ve got a refrigerator in this cabinet. This is perfect for storing all your drinks.

helm station

All the way up here forward into starboard, we’ve got our lower helm station. This is an excellent place to drive the boat from. You’ve got all the stuff you had up top except two Raymarine E120s instead of the E140, our bow thruster stern thruster, our side power stabilizer controls, so we do have zero speed stabilization that’s excellent when you’re on the hook, staying on the boat overnight and even when you’re at the dock. Our CAT monitors again and then here two ST Raymarine autopilots located centerline. Over here on the far wall, we’ve got our climate controls as well as our chiller controls and then our Simrad VHF radio. Right here on my starboard side, I’ve got access through this door so I can get up to the bow quick when I’m docking.

Now let’s check out those staterooms. Right when we step down the stairs, we’re conveniently located on this wall we’ve got all of our AC/DC switches and power distribution controls on this touch screen. There are a total of 4 staterooms down here and we’re going to start all the way forward to keep things easy and work our way back. This is the VIP and as you saw up top with the escape hatch, it doubles as a skylight and gives you a dramatic feel in here which would otherwise be a cave-like feeling. Up here for accommodations, we’ve got a makeup vanity here, a nice size hanging locker just behind it and a full queen-sized berth. TV on the wall behind me and then access to our ensuite.

VIP stateroom

Working our way aft we come to this dayhead that also has access to the stateroom here on my starboard side. This is a great stateroom with an ingenious setup. So you can have it as a full-size berth as it’s configured now or you can push a button and they’ll split apart and give you two side-by-sides.

We’re going to head aft to this third stateroom and I’d like for you to note the atrium effect that we get from all the natural light pouring in and that brings us here to the third stateroom that features side-by-side berths, a makeup vanity here and a giant hanging locker behind this door. As we step down just before we get in the master stateroom, here on the starboard side we’ve got our combo Miele washer/dryer and then here on the port, we’ve got a wine fridge.

That brings us to our master stateroom that’s located here in the most comfortable midship point of the boat. It’s going to be super stable, amplified by those zero speed stabilizers and it’s a full beam with these dramatic windows which again was very innovative for the time that this boat was put together. Starting on this side we’ve got our vanity and tons of storage. As we work our way centerline we’ve got our king-size berth here facing forward to a nice flat screen Samsung flush-mounted on the wall and we’ve got a nice vanity seat rounding out on the starboard side. Then working aft just behind me we’ve got all of our closet space and then a huge private ensuite. That’s got another one of these big dramatic windows.

master stateroom

We’re going to check out the crew quarters and engine room. And as we step down here onto the swim platform, you’re going to have two doors, one is a lazarette storage place for all your cleaning supplies and whatnot and then this one is the access to our engine room and cruise quarters. Let’s check that out next. Here on the port side of the engine room right when you enter, we’ve got our crew quarters and crew quarters are important. If you want to have good crew, you’ve got to have nice accommodations and Princess does a really good job giving you the space that they’re going to want. You’ve got two berths so you can have two crew, a nice size hanging locker, and then here just ford a really spacious ensuite.

So we stepped through a watertight access into this engine room and it’s a pretty spacious engine room. You’ve got tons of ceiling height, two C32 CATs on either side. This boat’s capable of doing almost 36 knots. She’ll cruise all day at 28. Right here on this side, we’ve got our water maker and this side are chillers for all of our air conditioning inside the boat. We’re going to head aft and check out this part of the engine room and you’ll see right here, you’ve got nice cat displays on either side so whoever’s here can see exactly what’s going on in real-time. One other thing to note on performance is at 10 knots, you’ve got about 800 miles of range which is pretty strong for a boat this size. Just on the aft side here we’ve got our hydraulics that control our davit, our bow, and stern thruster, and our zero speed stabilization.
