But, when the days start to get shorter, colder, and grayer, and hundreds of thousands of students return to clog the streets with U-Haul trucks, I can only think of one thing; escape.
That’s exactly what I was dreaming about when I spoke to captain Stephan De Plessis of the 121-foot Custom Line charter yacht EROS. And after hearing how he and his crew pamper guests while escaping to all the cool spots in the Caribbean every winter, I was ready to pack my bags; even before I learned just how perfectly suited to chartering in the Caribbean EROS is.
Launched in 2019 and refitted in 2024, EROS combines the Italian style, spaciousness, and comfort that Custom Line yachts are known for with the toys, tenders, and especially the stability that’s essential when chartering in the Caribbean. In fact, captain De Plessis explained EROS’s ability to eliminate rocking was one of the features that distinguishes EROS from other charter yachts.

“Charter guests really love EROS in the Caribbean because we have massive stabilizer fins, and three sea keepers on
board as well,” he said. “The stability just sets it apart from any other vessel I’ve been on board.”
This is what I love about talking to charter captains. They know what everything we need to know about their yachts. So, in addition to its world-class stabilizer system, EROS might be one of the biggest, and most comfortable 121-footers you’ll see. It can accommodate up to 10 guests in five private staterooms. The full-beam master suite is located on the main deck and features its own private office and lounge area. The lower deck features four staterooms that are perfectly suited for both families and groups of friends. And the open-plan living spaces are flooded with natural light thanks to large windows throughout the main salon and skylounge.

On deck, EROS guests have lots of space to relax. The sundeck features a hot tub and bar. The bridge deck dining area is the perfect place to enjoy a long relaxing dinner. And the large beach club is the perfect spot to sunbathe, swim, or launch one of the many water toys that are available.
In fact, EROS offers a large selection of water toys and tenders designed for both
adventure and relaxation. The biggest is their 33-foot Boston Whaler that’s ideal for smooth cruising and on-the-water exploration. The fleet also includes two Seadoo waverunners and two Sea Bobs. Inflatable paddle boards and a kayak are available for a more chill, human-powered alternative. And EROS is also set up to do what may be one of my favorite things to do on a charter—explore underwater with a mask, snorkel, and fins and then unwind on the beach with teak chairs, umbrellas, tables, and a gazebo the crew has set up for the ultimate beach escape.
I can! And now I’m imagining what the rest of our perfect charter aboard EROS would be like. I think it’d go something like this.

After an amazingly restorative afternoon spent with cool drinks, great company, and ultra-comfortable shade on the beach, we return to the boat to get ready for sunset drinks on the sundeck perhaps? And then we go down to the main deck to enjoy dinner in the salon. After that, there’s lots we can do. Some might want to chill out, listen to some music and play cribbage in the large main salon. Others may want to take their drinks out to the bridge deck dining area or maybe even look for fish that might be attracted to the lights under the beach club swim platform.
But I think what I’d really love to do is to watch one of may favorite movies up in the skylounge movie theater. In fact, I think the skylounge might be one of my favorite spots on the boat. Not only does it offer a large, high-def TV, plush seating, cinematic surround sound, and panoramic views, it’s also just the right size to cozy up on the couches with your family and friends to watch a movie. And since it has such killer views out of its large windows and through doors that open out to the aft-deck dining area, it’s a great place to escape to when you’ve had a bit too much sun and just want to read a book in cool comfortable air conditioning during the day too.

But you don’t have to take my word for it. I’ve seen the guest book and read what people have said after a charter aboard EROS. Like many things in life it’s the people that really make the difference.
“Dear Captain Stephan and crew,” reads one entry. “Thank you for every effort. Every thoughtfulness. Every extra step you each offered to make us feel welcome, tended to so we could to sink into every moment and let the cares of the world fade away during our nine-day stay. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and see you next year.”
Another entry reads “Everything from the amazing meals to the epic snorkeling spots, paddle boarding and the best sunsets was perfect. Your warmth, fun energy, and attention to detail made us feel at home. We’ll treasure these memories.”
