Founded in 1987, Oceanco was the brainchild of then CEO Richard Hein and a group of South African investors. The massive luxury superyachts structure would be built in Durban, South Africa then shipped to the Netherlands to finish up the build. Oceanco was purchased by Greek shipping magnate Theodore Angelopoulos in 2002. Since then a new building strategy has been implemented (Y Generation), allowing the construction of 80-plus meter superyachts.

The Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco has a current lineup of 80 to 110-meter luxury superyachts. The largest luxury yacht to ever be constructed by Oceanco is the 120-meter superyacht Redentore, still being built today. This behemoth holds 43 crew members and has a fuel capacity of 200,000 gallons/760,000 Liters. The shipyard constructs, designs, and engineers its own vessels with the occasional collaboration with outside firms.
