From its dedicated shipyard in La Grande-Motte, France, the yard applies Grand Prix–level composite technology and engineering, earning a reputation as a cult brand and a reference point in the fast cruising multihull segment. Gunboat catamarans are instantly recognisable for their contemporary lines, carbon construction, and refined interiors, combining luxury, seaworthiness, and remarkable average passage speeds.

Capabilities

At its factory headquarters in La Grande-Motte, France, Gunboat unites in-house design, engineering, composite construction and project management under one roof, backed by the industrial strength of the Grand Large Yachting group to deliver high-tech, semi-custom performance multihulls with tightly controlled quality, weight and build times. Owners and their captains or project teams are encouraged to spend time at the shipyard, engaging directly with specialists as the yacht progresses through design reviews, structural controls, sea trials and handover, all supported by the wider Grand Large Services network for preparation, maintenance and future upgrades worldwide.

Technical Mastery

For over two decades, Gunboat’s naval architects, engineers, and composite specialists have approached every new model and evolution of the range with a shared focus on high structural efficiency, seakindly performance, and real-world reliability offshore. From its design office and shipyard in La Grande-Motte, Gunboat works in tightly integrated loops with partners such as VPLP and leading stylists, using advanced 3D modeling, simulation, and validation to optimise structures, appendages, and systems long before parts are laminated. Continuous R&D in all-carbon, pre-preg and infused composites, robotically-laid structural components, and emerging materials such as healable laminates allows the brand to deliver light, stiff platforms that maintain performance, safety margins, and serviceability over years of hard mileage.

Gunboat specializes in high-performance luxury cruising catamarans, built from carbon fiber composites with Nomex honeycomb cores. Based in La Grande-Motte, France, the shipyard produces semi-custom builds ranging from 68 to 80+ feet, suited for both bluewater cruising and competitive regattas.

The shipyard is located in La Grande-Motte in southern France. Its facilities include a 38,736-square-foot (3,600 m²) assembly hall equipped for carbon fiber infusion of hulls and decks, with structural composite panels and interior components produced in partnership with specialized suppliers including Fibre Mechanics in the UK.

Gunboat is known for its "zero compromise" approach to design, engineering and performance. Since its founding in 2002, the yard has developed deep expertise in advanced carbon fiber composite construction, including epoxy-infused carbon with Nomex honeycomb cores. Gunboat combines world-class naval architecture from partners like VPLP with semi-custom interior design and hands-on project management, delivering high-performance catamarans that excel in both luxury cruising and competitive racing.

Gunboat's primary focus is on new semi-custom catamaran builds rather than refit services. Over its history since 2002, the yard has delivered more than 30 high-performance cruising catamarans ranging from 48 to 90 feet. For ongoing support, Gunboat maintains a close-knit owner community and provides technical expertise for its exclusive fleet sailing worldwide.

In 2016 Gunboat was acquired by Grand Large Yachting, the French group behind Outremer, Allures and Garcia yachts. This partnership brought sound financial backing and relocated production to new purpose-built facilities in La Grande-Motte, France. Since then, Gunboat has launched the all-new Gunboat 68 (now evolved into the Gunboat 70) and the Gunboat 72, developed with design partner VPLP, a leader in high-performance multihull naval architecture.
