The Amalfi Coast

Declared one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites for its undisputed beauty and the uniqueness of its natural landscape, the Amalfi Coast is characterized by the contrasting combination between mountain and sea, farmer and fisherman. The mountains plunge steeply into the sea, creating charming coves, deep fjords, cliffs, caverns, bays, natural arches and small pebble beaches.  Natural elements have created, over the centuries, an enchanting, sinuous and seductive landscape.

Sample Itinerary:
Day 1: Board the yacht in Naples and get underway for the coastal cruise to Positano. Seen from the sea, it’s awe-inspiring to view the incredible engineering genius of the architecture. Enjoy lunch onboard the yacht under anchor from the aft deck taking in the sights.   Go ashore and explore the myriad of steps, streets, and shops.  Positano is a great place to buy locally made sandals and footwear.  Shoemakers can create shoes on request while you sip Limoncello.   The yacht will move to the nearby port of Amalfi for the evening.

Day 2: Today perhaps take a half day tour up to Ravello.

The slow uphill drive along a very narrow road, passes several vineries and olive factories and leads to this village untouched by tourism.  At the top of her 350 meters above sea level, there are breath-taking views, natural beauty and ancient monuments.  Don’t miss the gardens of Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. In high season, these gardens are rich in sweet secants of blooming flowers, shadows of flora and perfume of lemons. The cathedral of San Pantaleone and its architectural treasures have enchanted over the centuries important writers, artists and chiefs of state, such as: Boccaccio, Wagner, DH Lawrence, V. Woolf, Gore Vidal, Ingrid Bergman, Greta Garbo, Humphrey Bogart, JF Kennedy and his wife Jacqueline.

That afternoon set sail for the Island of Capri.

Day 3: Early in the morning, take the tender to explore the famous Blue Grotto. The later in the day it gets the more tourists will arrive.  The Grotto is known throughout the world for its size, the intense blue tones of its interior and the magical silvery light which emanates from the objects immersed in its waters. Spend the afternoon relaxing in the sun or go ashore and enjoy this enchanting and picturesque island made of limestone rock.

Day 4:  Enjoy breakfast at anchor before departing for the island of Procida.  Procida is a quaint and colorful island with a lot of character. The narrow, winding walled streets of the town cover the expanse of the island and are quietly surrounded by the coastline, which is cloaked in volcanic black sand. The island is very small and can easily be walked around in three or four hours.  The unpretentious port town is a picture of unconventional beauty with gently rocking battered fishing boats; sun bleached pastel colored houses, and laundry lines fluttering in the breeze.  It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the yacht.

Day 5:  Today it’s off to the island of Ischia famous for her natural thermal springs and spas.   Visit one of the best facilities, Negombo in the town of Lacco Ameno. This spa is situated on a beautiful bay with private beach and swimming pools of different temperatures. There is also a beauty center where you can enjoy a range of treatments.  Tonight enjoy one of the many restaurants, perhaps ‘Umberto a mare’ in Forio.

Day 6: This morning the yacht will have departed early for the Greek style island of Ponza.  Famed for its crystal clear water, anchor off in one of the beautiful bays surrounding the island. Enjoy a relaxed day of swimming and snorkeling in these blue, clear waters. Explore the coast with the tender and experience the wonderful caves and deserted forts nestled around the island. After lunch, head into the tiny port and stroll through the ancient cobbled streets before heading out this evening for a traditional fresh seafood meal at a seaside restaurant.

Day 7: Head off bright an early for Riva di Traiano near Rome where this ancient city is waiting to be explored.  Get lost for the entire day in her history.  Enjoy a scrumptious last dinner on board this evening.

Day 8: Depart after a leisurely brunch.

“Chris is the man!”

Just bought a bought a boat… a 36′ Endeavour Power Cat. We had researched and thought about what we wanted as our first boat together and being first timers were a little overwhelmed by the process. I would like to give Chris Ollis of Denison Yacht Sales all the credit for making it happen. He did all the necessary leg work from finding the boat to sea trials to surveys on both the boat and the engines, helped with making everything happen on schedule and all this while we live 350 miles from the boat.  Chris is the man!… [read more]
