Sea Hunt was founded by a father-son team. Vic Roof Sr. began his career in the marine industry during the 1960’s. Vic and his brother, Alvin, established Sunbird Boat Company, one of the largest boat companies in the 1980’s.

Outboard Marine Corporation eventually purchased Sunbird, and Vic took a short break from boat building. When his son, Vic Roof Jr. (Bubba), graduated college, the two created Sea Hunt Boat Company in 1955 in Columbia, South Carolina.

Sea Hunt’s mission is to give boat owners the most boat for their money. By operating debt-free, Sea Hunt is able to take advantage of cash discounts on raw materials. Sea Hunt belongs to Independent Boat Builders Inc., the largest independent marine buying group.

Sea Hunt’s design team has remained the same since its first boat. Doug Collier, a fifth generation boat designer, collaborates with Vic Roof Sr. and Bubba Roof on Sea Hunt’s innovative designs. Sea Hunt center console fishing boats are started on a drafting board with specific ideas in mind, then hand built into a wood “plug” from which a fiberglass mold is made.
