Fort Lauderdale, FL, US

Description

The Islander Freeport 36B is a classic Robert Perry design, and one of those boats that has a following with an active owner's group.  The clever layout with comfortable owner's cabin, large forward head and ample headroom for 6++ tall guys and gals has made it a favorite in this under 40' size boat.  Not to mention the large windows that light up the saloon making you feel you are aboard a larger yacht.

A cockpit that sits 6 comfortably, offering a higher perch for the helmsman is also a popular hangout when you are dining at anchor, offering cup holders and a folding cockpit table.

With a Sail area to Displacement Ratio of over 16, she sails nicely and pleases the whole family.

Come check out this sailor's favorite right here near downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Accommodations

Accommodations

The Islander Freeport 36B has a roomy and tall head clearance interior from companionway all the way to the shower at the bow.  It came in mostly two layouts, both offering lots of storage space.

Layout A has a private owner's cabin as a v-berth with a sink.  The head was just aft of the cabin.

Natty Dread is a Layout B, which provides much more comfort for the owner, and a larger head/sink/shower area, also accessible to the rest of the crew without invading the privacy of the owner's berth located to port, thanks to its louvered shutters that close off the berth from the hallway connecting the saloon to the head at the bow.

The settee to starboard turns into a queen berth, and the L-shaped settee dinette offers a berth for 2 children.

A compact navstation to starboard just down from the companionway has room for all the essentials.

Galley

Galley

The U-shaped galley to port just down from the companionway is open to the entire saloon area, making for a convivial experience with the rest of the family.

It consists of a double sink, 3 burner gas stove and icebox.

This vessel has been taken care of by it's only second owner, who has had it for the last 30 years.

It has been lightly used the last 10 years, and is fully equipped for cruising right now, with everything you need.  Just bring your toothbrush.

"Natty Dread" looks so nice I wouldn't hesitate to sign it up for the Fort Lauderdale Christmas Boat Parade, and has comfortably sailed across the Gulf Stream to Bimini, Abacos and Eleuthera islands.

The Standing Rigging is still the original, and holding up well.  The running rigging is about 7 years old, and lightly used.

The sails, with a little stitching can handle another 2 years of frequent use.

The Galley has an icebox that has conserved food just fine all the 30 years of ownership.  A "cold-plate" can be installed if you wish.

The air-conditioner runs off the shorepower, however a small 5kW generator can be installed maybe under the companionway, as there is no engine in that area.  The engine is actually under the saloon sole at midship.

There is a lightly used asymmetrical sail and whisker pole, shown in use in one of the photos.

Would you believe it has LED lighting throughout the saloon?  It does!

"Natty Dread" sits on the New River in brackish water, allowing it's 2 year old bottom paint to last another few seasons.  Bottom is clean.

Anytime she was hauled out for service, minor blisters were repaired over the years.

NOTICE TO ALL INTERESTED PARTIES:

This vessel is priced well below it's comps because of the poor maintenance. Vessel runs fine, but is a project requiring a lot of TLC from a handyman.

Please only call if you are interested in taking on a project, and the low price makes it worth your while.

Thank you.

-----------------

You will quickly notice how the Islander Freeport 36 is a light and airy boat given the large saloon windows and five 21" Bomar hatches.  These have canvas covers for protection and to keep the heat out.

The transom gate converts from a comfortable helm seat, to a very nice boarding ladder, allowing scuba divers to come up with their tanks on their backs.

The saloon is embellished with a windup ship's bell clock and barometer, and the port lights have screens.

Cockpit cushions were custom made with closed cell foam.

Natty Dread comes with two anchors: Danforth and a Claw anchor.
