Description

LLC Owned

The three time Transpac veteran Destroyer is now offered for sale.  Destroyer is a third generation, Cookson Boats (NZL) built TP52 which was built for King Juan Carlos of Spain in 2005.  She sailed the 2013 Transpac under the name of Grins and again in 2015 as Destroyer where she finished 2nd in Division 2 and 1st in the HPR Division.  For the recently completed 50th anniversary of Transpac, Destroyer finished in 8 days with a 2nd in Division 1 (Subclass 1) and 3rd overall in Division 1 beating all of the sleds, the other TP52s  and a IRC52 as well.  Additional race results in 2019 include a First in Class A in the Newport to Cabo Race and a 2nd in Class in the 2019 and 2018 Newport to Ensenada Race.

Destroyer was purchased by the current owner in the Winter of 2017 and changed the emphasis of the boat to offshore racing here in So Cal with everything one would need for a successful offshore campaign.  She underwent a complete rehab in 2018-2019 including updating the boat's systems, overhauled the deck along with new non-skid paint and soft SeaDek in the cockpit and put a custom race bottom on her.  The carbon Hall two spreader mast and boom were overhauled in 2018 and serviced just prior to the 2019 Transpac along with the Harken winch package which features two carbon pedestal grinders.  The existing Ullman sail inventory was updated in 2018 and 2019 by the Ullman Newport Beach loft.

Destroyer is LLC owned and comes complete with full boat and mast covers along with a custom yard cradle for dry storage and a 30 foot, 3-axial, air conditioned toy hauler that is set up with multiple storage cabinets, sail storage and work benches.  She has been professionally maintained by an experienced grand prix boat captain and shore manager. Destroyer is ready to go with all the necessary offshore safety equipment and would be an excellent choice for Puerto Vallarta and Pacific Cup 2020.

Construction

Destroyer is a 2005, Bruce Far designed TP52 that was built in New Zealand by Cookson Boats of carbon fiber epoxy pre-preg with a Nomex core sandwich construction.  Foam coring was used up forward in the "slamming areas" for added strength.

Vacuum-bagged throughout with carbon/foam infused interior structure. with monocoque type construction forward of the mast.

The interior arrangement has been simplified to its racing functionality. The resulting weight savings was used to congregate weight centrally in the boat to reduce pitching inertia and allow some exchange of volumes between appendages and hull.

Destroyer was built to ABS Offshore Racing Guidelines and is one of the few TP52s that is set up for offshore racing.  This has been proven time and again with 3 Transpacs, Cabo, Ensenada and So Cal 300 races under her belt.

Interior

Destroyer's interior was gone though and repainted as necessary and 6 mm soft SeaDek flooring was installed on the carbon floorboards throughout the interior.
