44' Marine Trader 1987

This is an almost perfect West Coast island-hopping boat. When at anchor or at the dock, there is a huge amount of space to enjoy the scenery. Up top is a large flybridge with a full canvas enclosure to keep you out of the weather in an elevated vantage point. A few steps down is a massive hard top covered sundeck, which is perfect for hosting family and friends. Inside is a well-appointed salon and lower helm station. The full galley is down with the guest cabin and head forward. There is a huge aft cabin with an island queen, lots of storage, and an ensuite head with a soaker tub.

With twin Ford Lehmans totalling 270 hp, you’ll be able to see every island in the Gulf, Desolation, the Broughtons, or even Alaska! Cruise year-round with the hydronic heating. Stay out for ages with the 4 kw generator and 540 watts of solar, keeping the batteries topped up. If you like to fish, there’s a functional cockpit and a great tender.

Besides replacing fuel and water tanks, this boat has seen a lot of updates in the last five years to ensure you have a vessel you can count on. Have a look through the “New & Featured” section to see the highlights.

Layout & Description

Board from the swim grid, then through the transom gate, or via portable stairs onto either side. The cockpit is serviceable with a large lazarette and access to the upper sundeck or the aft stateroom.

The aft stateroom is huge! It has a centerline queen with plenty of walk-around room and loads of storage. The ensuite is equipped with a bathtub for the ultimate in decadence.

A couple of steps up is the main salon. There is an L-shaped settee to starboard and two chairs to port. The settee in combo with the table makes a double bunk. Full engine access is below the sole here. Windows abound and make for a very bright room that you’ll want to spend time in.

The inside helm is forward of the salon to starboard, on the same level. There’s a sliding door next to the helm for easy access to the deck. Handy when docking.

A few stairs drop down into the lower forward aspect of the vessel. To port is the galley. There is a wonderfully long countertop for food preparation, a double stainless steel sink, a microwave, a 3-burner stove with oven, and a large front-loading fridge/freezer. Again, the huge windows around the saloon and over the galley make for a bright and inviting space.

Opposite the galley is an enclosed toilet compartment with a vanity and hand sink, an electric marine head, and a shower.

Moving forward is another stateroom, with staggered double and single berths, a hanging locker and access to the chain locker in the forepeak.

Returning to the salon, there is a set of stairs that leads up to the sundeck, where you’ll find comfy chairs, a BBQ, and beautiful furnishings, all under a hard dodger. Move forward and up a couple of steps up onto the flybridge with the upper helm. There are plenty of places to sit and chat on bench seats, a companion seat, or the captain’s chair. This area can be fully enclosed with vinyl and strata glass surrounds. Both the sundeck and flybridge have stunning blue-patterned floor coverings. There is a window with a windshield wiper installed to operate in the rain.

Above the sundeck, accessible via the flybridge, is a hard deck for tender storage, the tender hoist, and a life raft. It’s also the perfect diving platform on those hot summer days when you’re wanting a little thrill.

The side decks are wide enough to maneuver around, but not so wide as to hog interior living space. The foredeck is beautifully spacious. This is the place for yoga and disco parties.
