2005 Bob Sullivan / PL Jones 47' Express (Custom Carolina)
The Outer Banks region of North Carolina is renowned for its many excellent Custom Carolina sport fishing boat builders. Bob Sullivan, a fifth-generation boat builder, has a heritage that reaches back to the early 1900s with great-great-grandfather, boat builder Thomas Beauregard Hayman, and grandfather, legendary boatbuilder Allen Hayman, from whom he learned the skills to build great sport fishing boats. Bob Sullivan built his boats in the traditional plank on frame method of juniper wood, covered with fiberglass (composite).
Custom Carolina boats feature a huge sharp entry bow with extreme flare and a broken sheerline that steps down about where the cabin and cockpit meet. The deep-V hull transitions to a shallower or flat bottom aft, and the flared bow transitions to tumblehome (narrower above waterline) aft. These design features allow the vessel to cut through and deflect waves for a drier softer ride, along with speed and efficiency. The composite plank on frame construction helps keep the vessel’s weight down for greater speed and less draft. The high freeboard at the bow helps the boat take on rough seas. No two custom sport fishing yachts are exactly alike as they are built to an owner’s wishes, with the amenities, equipment and systems required. Custom Carolina sport fishing yachts are prized for their high-quality build and tournament-proven design.
