5 Caribbean Cocktails For Your Charter Yacht Vacation

July 10, 2017 2:17 pm

When you close your eyes and imagine the ultimate Caribbean vacation, do you picture a drink in your hand? If so, this is a “must try” list for you. Here are our top 5 Caribbean cocktails to try on your charter yacht vacation to the Virgin Islands.

1. Painkiller, Soggy Dollar, Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands

This is THE drink of the Virgin Islands, and The Soggy Dollar Bar is best known for this drink. This beach bar sits right on the sand in White Bay, on Jost Van Dyke. It offers free lounge chairs, allowing you to sip on your Painkiller and watch the yachts come and go.

This bar is also known for its spin on the original Painkiller. Two of our favorites are the “Nilla Killer” and “Razzberry Therapy,” which uses vanilla and raspberry flavored rums as opposed to a dark rum, which is used in the original Painkiller.

2. Dark ‘n’ Stormy, Hog Heaven, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands

You’ll feel like a true sailor with this cocktail in hand.  The name of the drink was allegedly coined by a sailor comparing it to the color of a cloud in which “only a fool or dead man would sail under.”  This cocktail only uses two simple ingredients: Gosling’s Dark Rum and ginger beer.

We recommend enjoying this end-of-the-day drink at Hog Heaven because of the restaurant’s altitude, giving you a bird’s eye view of the surrounding British Virgin Islands, like Necker, Mosquito, Anegada, Pear Island and Saba Rock.  There’s no better spot to catch a spectacular sunset.

3. Pina Colada, Saba Rock Restaurant, British Virgin Islands

Saba Rock offers an unbeatable happy hour from 4 – 6 pm, with $5 drinks, including their delicious Pina Coladas. These frosty, refreshing drinks that our charter guests just can’t get enough of, especially when you’ve been playing in the water all day, call for rum, coconut cream and pineapple juice. We love this location, as there is a tarpon feeding at 5 pm every day that is not to be missed!

4. Bushwacker, Pirates Bight, Norman Island, British Virgin Islands

A Bushwacker is a creamy, chocolatey milkshake, similar to your traditional Mudslide.  These definitely hit the spot on a hot Caribbean day in the Virgin Islands.  One of our favorite spots to enjoy these concoctions is at Pirates Bight.

This beachside restaurant located right in The Bight Bay offers lounge chairs and umbrellas to help you unwind. The anchorage is a great spot to hang out, as there are lots of moorings for your charter yacht and the bay is well protected.

5. Rum Punch, Marina Cay, British Virgin Islands

This cocktail is a delightful blend of light and dark rums, orange and pineapple juice, and grenadine.  One of our favorite spots to sip on this is at Pusser’s Restaurant in Marina Cay.

Sitting at anchorage here, with long stretches of coral surrounding you in the shallow blue-green waters alone is amazing, but the island itself has lots of history and is a great spot to snorkel and take a walk around.
