Where the Yachts Are: Top Countries

Drawing on publicly available vessel-tracking data, Bloomberg recently published a study entitled “Where the Yachts Are” listing the 10 most popular countries for superyacht visits. In the article, Bloomberg calculates the number of yachts cruising a nation’s waters — as well as their size — and compares the data to past months and years. What emerges is a unique picture of where superyachts can be found during the prime winter months.

The U.S. led the world in superyacht visits with a reported 159 yachts within two miles of the coast in January, 2019 and 173 in February, 2019 — a 14 percent increase from the previous year. The U.S. led in March as well with Bloomberg reporting 161 megayachts in U.S. waters. Italy was second in February of this year with 118 yachts followed by Spain (102) and France with 100 megayachts.

The takeaway? With so many luxury vacation areas to choose from, superyachts are clearly attracted to American destinations in spite of the fact that most are built and registered in foreign countries. The complete Bloomberg list is below.
