Yacht Review: Viking 37 Billfish [2018–Current]

April 30, 2019 2:26 pm

This popular day boat struck the right note with anglers up and down the East Coast.

Overview: The Viking 37 Billfish is based on the Ocean 37 Billfish produced by Ocean Yachts starting in 2008. Viking acquired the rights to this popular boat when they purchased the Ocean facilities in late 2015. Viking kept the running surface and basic interior layout of the Ocean model intact while introducing fresh exterior styling and beefing up construction. In fact, the Viking looks even better than the original model thanks largely to the addition of a new single-piece wraparound windshield. In classic bay-boat style, the salon and lower helm are open to the 86-square-foot cockpit with aft facing bench seating over a bait freezer to starboard, insulated in-deck fish boxes, and a bait/rigging station to port.

A livewell is built into the transom, and a deck hatch provides access to the generator and optional Seakeeper stabilizer. Below deck, Amtico vinyl flooring is standard in the open-plan interior. An L-shaped galley with Corian counter, hidden cooktop, convection/microwave oven and refrigerator is opposite a large head compartment with stall shower. The private stateroom in the bow accommodates a queen bed or crossover berths. Twin 550hp Cummins QSB 6.7 diesels cruise at 26–28 knots (mid 30s top).

Price Range: From the high $800s
