Beneteau Monte Carlo 5: Italian Styling Never Looked So Good

October 4, 2019 2:20 pm

Distinctive styling, spacious accommodations and efficient IPS propulsion have made the MC5 one of Beneteau’s top selling U.S. models.

Accommodations:  From the sheltered aft deck, twin glass and stainless steel doors open into the MC5’s roomy interior where the galley is aft and the salon is forward. The U-shaped seating to port in the salon doubles as a dinette and the table opens out to serve six people. Further forward, the helm is open to the salon where large windows flood the entire area with abundant natural lighting. Below deck, the layout includes double cabins fore and aft, a small guest cabin in between, and two heads. The full beam master features two huge circular windows that offer panoramic views of the water. A fourth single-berth cabin can be fitted aft, in the transom. The flybridge — large for a boat this size — features a wet bar, dining table and a vast sun pad opposite the helm. Wide side decks and sturdy railings make getting the MC5 around easy, and the engine room offers good service access even with the aft crew cabin. A hydraulic swim platform and bow thruster are standard.

Performance: Volvo 435hp IPS 600 pod drive diesels cruise at 24–26 knots (28 knots top).

Price Range: Unused models (2014–15) start in the mid $600s. New MC5s start at around $900K.

“With the galley aft on the main deck, it’s readily accessible from either the cockpit or the salon. The designers have gone to great pains to hide the fact that this is a galley when it is not in use, and there are even foldaway taps at the sink.”

“The U-shaped sofa to port was very comfortable for one person and if a hi-lo table was put in here it would be more than comfortable for two. There’s also a settee to starboard that can be used for a night…”

Power & Motoryacht

“From the external aft deck beneath the shelter of the fly structure, you step through wide, fully opening concertina-style sliding doors into the galley. It’s a great position for the cooking area.”

“The master stateroom takes the full beam amidships. On both sides, two benches by the round windows give the chance to rest with a view.”
