BVI Re-Opening To Tourists + Yacht Charters [COVID-19 Protocol]

Marina Nazario | September 24, 2020

It’s official — the British Virgin Islands will re-open to international tourists on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

The Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie announced that the BVI’s borders will open to visitors in December 2020. The announcement came as he introduced the BVILOVE Launch Tourism Campaign, a call for tourism to take on a new look, new feel, new image, and new perspective. The BVI aims to focus on its mainstay markets of luxury, sailing, diving, fishing, and watersports through a new and safe lens.

Preparing the BVI with new safety guidelines

“The territory has two full months to prepare and we as a people must get it right and we must get it done by all working together, both the Government and private sector,” said Premier Fahie during the launch of BVILOVE.

The Premier said that the Government intends to re-open the territory in the safest way possible using science and technology as a guide.

“This next phase also comes with a risk factor, where if a case of COVID-19 gets into our territory, then it can go through the whole community very quickly. That is why we must use technology,” he said. “The concentration must be to use the technology through a simulation prior, to demonstrate that the technology will complement the science to greatly assist us in re-opening in the safest way, humanly possible.”

It’s an excellent time to start planning a luxury charter to the Caribbean

This is great news for the BVI, which relies heavily on tourism. Plan a luxury charter to the Caribbean as it’s one of the safest ways to travel during the pandemic. If yacht crew and guests take standard safety precautions before embarking, such as testing and sanitizing regimes, then it will lead to a more relaxing yacht charter for everyone.

While there are still a handful of challenges when traveling to a foreign destination during the pandemic, there is currently no update on entry requirements, such as proof of a negative COVID-19 test or mandatory quarantine upon arrival in the BVI. In any case, when you charter a yacht to or at a foreign destination with Denison Yachting, the crew and charter management will help make your vacation as seamless as possible by helping you navigate customs and immigration upon arrival.
