57 Jefferson Trawler Walkthrough [Boat Review + Video]

This is Byron Shirley from Denison Yachting. I’m going to take you aboard this 2002 Jefferson 57 Pilothouse. The owners have had her for 4 years and have spent quite a lot of time and energy improving her and making her very comfortable as a liver board. She’s got 3 cabins and 2 heads and she’s got twin 450 horsepower Cummins. She’s also had her galley upgraded and a lot of other upgrades like a fully enclosed flybridge.

Let’s take you aboard, we’ll start aft. The swim platform has been completely redesigned from the ground up in February 2019. It’s now much wider and longer than it used to be and it’s got a fiberglass skin and non-skid. They also added custom staple rails. It’s a really great platform for bringing up your tender and getting off and on the boat.

Moving a couple steps up into the cockpit, you’ve got a really nice inviting space that’s wide open and ready to be configured to the next owner’s needs. Some of the features of this space are a custom fiberglass hanging locker which is great for leaving your winter clothes outside. There’s also a full isinglass and sunbrella enclosure with sliding panels and the panels are able to slide or flip up. The cockpit is about 6 foot by 12 foot wide and underneath the steps that go up to the flybridge is access to the engine room. Furthermore, if you open up a hatch in the cockpit you can access the lazarette which has got a deep freezer and plenty of space for all your gear and access to the steering mechanism.

Moving forward into the salon, this is an open space that can be reconfigured to the new owner’s taste. Currently to starboard there’s a lovely couch that has been custom built for the area that’s measuring 84 inches. There’s a TV in a hidden cabinet that pops up and can be angled towards the viewer. This space is really comfortable and you’ve got nice natural light coming in and the owners have upgraded the entire boat with LED lights. So you’ve got plenty of brightness in the evening. Moving forward into the galley, this space has been reconfigured with more counter space than before. There’s all new appliances including a Bosch dishwasher, new subzero fridge and freezers, a Wolf induction cooktop and a Bertazoni oven microwave. The countertop has been redone in quartz with white and gray marble color.

This area also has plenty of storage including some nice lockers for food and cooking gear. Moving up the stairs from the galley is the Pilothouse in the helm station. This is a really great space. It’s much larger than typical Pilothouses. There’s a large L-shaped settee that has a dinner table that can be lowered and raised depending on your needs. You can sit 6 people in the city and add more chairs around for more guests. The helm station has got a captain’s chair, an updated Varuna electronics and it’s really comfortable space. You’ve also got great visibility looking aft and looking out port and starboard out of the side doors when you’re docking.

Coming down from the Pilothouse down a wide set of steps you, get to the lower quarters. In the main corridor you have a washer and dryer and you have access to all the cabins including a bunk bed cabin that could be reconfigured for amazing amount of storage. Going a little further forward to port you have access to the dayhead which is also the head for the VIP cabin. The VIP cabin is a really great space comfortable with plenty of storage and the beds have been replaced with Seattle mattress brand mattresses.

Moving further aft is where you get to the master cabin which is the true jewel of the downstairs area. The full beam master cabin is midship with an adjoining head and very spacious shower compartment. There’s a great amount of storage to port in starboard of the queen size bed with twin hanging lockers including one that’s really deep and allows for boxes or shoes or large storage bins. Before we move up to the exterior I should mention that there’s a KVH satellite receiver so you can connect your cable box to get cable TV away from the dock.

Inside the engine room there is Cummins engines which are 6 CTA 8.4 inboard shaft driven diesel engines. They’re 450 horsepower each and currently they have 2000 hours on each engine. Also in the engine room, there’s a Northern Lights generator that’s got 12 kW capacity and has 2500 hours. The servicing has been done regularly the past few years and there’s a lot of upgrades to the engines and generator over that time. Finally, there’s a Cabola hydronic diesel heater throughout the boat. This hydraulic heater also provides hot water anytime while underway or an anchor. There’s also a water maker that does 600 gallons per day and has been regularly serviced.

Moving up to the flybridge, the flybridge can be accessed from a set of stairs aft or from the Pilothouse. The flybridge is split up into three areas, an upper helm with two STID chairs that have been replaced in the past few years and a great helm station with isinglass windows in front.

Then down two stairs is a comfortable seating patio with facing L-shaped seating for 12. There’s a teak table that’s removable in between and a console with a sink, a fridge with ice maker, storage and counter space. This space is fully enclosed and panels can be lifted up as needed to create ventilation.

Further aft is the back deck which is storage for the tender which can be lifted by a 1500 pound capacity Nick Jackson davit. There’s a large barbecue installed on the rail to starboard and plenty of space for adding more storage boxes or for entertaining. If you want to get from the flybridge back to the cockpit, there’s a nice set of steps out and you can get to the side decks for docking. The side decks are wide. You have an overhang and you have side doors on starboard and port where you can install the sea stairs that come with the boat.

Moving forward you’ve got the Portuguese bridge which has seating and storage. And further forward you’ve got ground tackle with 300 foot of chain and 99 pounds stainless steel anchor. You’ve got a new Maxwell windlass and it’s got the windlass remote control with a chain counter. Lastly, this boat is equipped with a bow and stern thruster, so she’s easy to dock.
