Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon (one of the biggest household names these days), happens to be one of the richest people in the world–to no surprise. With such a high net worth, many are aware of his purchase of a new construction Oceanco sailing yacht–destined to be the largest sailing yacht in the world. The superyacht is estimated to have cost more than half a billion dollars.
For a number of years, she was being constructed in the Netherlands by the Dutch shipyard Oceanco. Finally reaching completion, she set sail last week for sea trials, in initial preparation for her delivery. As the delivery date approaches, so does the release of more information about the megayacht, including her name. Everyone, meet KORU.
Bezos’ sailing yacht measures in at a mere 417 feet (127 meters) in length and 3,300 gross tons in volume. She includes three masts to support her sails–their combined surface area totaling more than 20,000 square feet. If all this grandeur wasn’t enough, KORU also allegedly features a helipad, a gym, a spa, and a movie theater, among plenty of other luxurious and top-notch amenities.
Initial plans set the superyacht to accommodate ten guests in an undisclosed amount of staterooms. She is also designed for 30 crew. In addition, she features a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system that enables silent sailing–avoiding a loud diesel engine.
With sea trials in full force, it is anticipated that KORU’s delivery date will be in the near future. She has already begun preparations for her owner. It has been reported that Jeff Bezos intends to use the superyacht for recreation–including vacations with his loved ones. There are also reports that the sailing yacht may be available for charter–potentially for an anticipated half a million dollars a week.
Needless to say, KORU’s debut is big news. We’re looking forward to seeing her out on the water sometime soon.
