Born in Bangalore, India to foreign aid workers, Dwyn spent her early years living in India, Turkey, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Colombia, and traveling extensively throughout Europe and the Middle East. She eventually landed in the U.S. for college and grad school in Washington, D.C.
Dwyn built a successful career as an economist—an unusual path for a future boater—authoring books on federal spending from the taxpayer’s perspective. Her work inspired PBS documentaries… and, as she notes with a wink, had zero impact on U.S. economic policy.
Everything changed in 2013, after surviving the Boston Marathon bombing. Ready for a new chapter, Dwyn bought her first boat—a Catalina 36’—sight unseen, with zero experience. She learned to sail from scratch and never looked back.
Now on her ninth boat, a beautifully restored 1967 Cal 34’, Dwyn lives aboard in Ventura, California. A licensed USCG captain with a sailing endorsement, she teaches sailing, cruises the Channel Islands, races for fun, and works as a yacht broker for Denison Yachting.
