In December of last year, I wrote you asking for the name of a broker that understood the type of boat I was looking for (trawlers) and would work closely with me to answer the hard questions. You replied quickly and I thank you immensely. You suggested Charlie King as a suitable candidate and Mr. King has been a great broker, adviser & friend as I went through the journey of buying a boat. As I write this letter I am spending my first morning in the saloon of my new boat, new home, a new adventure.
Mr. King replied quickly after I contacted you and he and I discussed what I was looking for, my plans for the boat, my experience with boating, and my financial expectations. I sent Mr. King a long list of items that I wanted to consider in my purchase and a list of 20 boats I had found on YachtWorld that might be suitable. The next day Charlie sent me a link to a boat I had not considered and that is the boat I sit on this morning. This is not the boat that matched my preconceptions, but it is undoubtedly the right boat for me.
The journey from, “I want” to “I own” has not been perfect. The selling broker let us down 3 times in major ways which have cost me well over $1,000 in totally unnecessary and wasted expense. Charlie can detail the travails we had working with a less than honest broker. Throughout the process, Charlie has been my friend, counselor and advocate. He kept me grounded (especially when I wanted to kill a certain broker) and kept the process moving forward. Charlie helped me find the boat and negotiate the price. He helped me find hull surveyors, engine surveyors, boat yards, and contractors. Most important of all, Charlie helped find the right boat for me.
Please extend my most sincere gratitude to Charlie for finding a boat that is far better than I ever thought I could afford and for making my life better than it would have been without him. Yesterday I brought my new fiancé aboard for the first time and she said to me the most beautiful words I have ever heard, “Yes, I will live on this with you for the next 20 years.”
Jeff,
You certainly know the market, and I was impressed by the prospective buyers you sent my way. Your listing of my boat was well done, and you were spot on in the suggested asking price.
The most remarkable part of this sale is the fact that 'Second Wind's' homeport is on Lake Ontario (I am a resident of New York State, you (my yacht broker) are located in Florida, and the buyer lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
As this was happening, I thought this sale was going to be a complicated process. But you handled it very well, and the closing was completed with absolutely no problems.
Thanks for your excellent service.
I was incredibly satisfied with the service I received from Tom Hugh-Jones. From initial discussions about what type of boat I was looking for all the way through sea trial and purchase, he was a constant source of reliable information and boating wisdom.
My questions were always answered quickly and thoughtfully, with the end goal always being complete transparency and understanding of both the boat and the process. If you're looking for a friend to guide you through the process and not just someone looking to make a sale Tom is your man.
Thank you for reminding me of what great jobs we have. I feel like I have encountered so many difficult deals and this Intrepid deal was nothing of that sort. It was quick, seamless and overall great.
Your professionalism went a long way and you can tell that your client really respects and trusts you. I wish all my deals could be with Brian Nobles!
