Long Beach, CA, US

Previously Asking $129,000

Off Market

Description

This unique performance cruiser was designed by German Frers and built by the high-quality shipbuilder's Kong & Halvorsen. The lines of this vessel are timeless which will attract the experienced yachtsman looking for the proper vessel, not off the mass production line of today’s weekend boats. Note the similar lines from Bristol, Swan, and Little Harbor when viewing this yacht. Its beamy design provides excellent deck and interior space. The center cockpit offers outstanding protection, all-around visibility, and accessibility. The sail plan and rigging are configured for power for easy management while shifting gears through the different weather conditions. Extended cruising would be very comfortable for a couple or a family on this yacht!

Accommodations

When you first approach the Frers designed Dawn 48 her flowing lines grab your attention by increasing your curiosity about what she offers below.  Stepping aboard you notice the huge cockpit, protected by a dodger with all lines leading into the cockpit making gear changes simple and easy, and all halyards and sheets can be lead to the large Barient electric winches.  There are two comfortable staterooms with ensuite heads and a spacious salon that features a comfortable U-shaped dinette to port with dining table which drops down to convert into a double berth. To starboard there is a comfortable settee and built-in bookshelves and storage lockers outboard above. Starting aft is the master stateroom with its own separate companionway from the cockpit. There is an oversized single berth to port and a single berth to starboard, both with shelves above outboard, two drawers below, and storage beneath. Forward of the starboard berth is a generous hanging locker behind a louvered door and 2 more lockers for general stowage forward of that. Between the berths is a two-drawer dresser with lockers above and a settee in front. There is storage beneath the settee. There is also a four-drawer dresser on the forward bulkhead to port of the companionway steps and another storage locker above. This cabin is finished in rubbed effect varnished teak with a teak and holly sole. There are three opening ports, a dorade vent and a Bomar deck hatch that provide natural light and ventilation. The ensuite bath features a porcelain sink in a marble countertop, new Jabsco manual head and a separate stall shower with a teak bench seat. The sink is equipped with pressurized hot and cold water and a hand pump. There are 4 storage lockers, one opening port and an exhaust fan in a dorade vent. The bath is finished in off-white Formica with varnished teak trim. Moving forward, a companionway along the starboard side leads into the main salon. The engine compartment, which is located beneath the cockpit, can be accessed through a door along this companionway or from a door on the forward end of the engine compartment. There is a wet locker that vents to the engine compartment for warm dry foul weather gear and a small bookrack. Opposite the engine compartment is a small berth with lee cloth with storage and fuel tank under.  At the forward end of the companionway is the nav station. It features a large chart table which lifts to provide storage beneath, 2 drawers and 2 lockers for storage and a comfortable upholstered bench seat with storage underneath. The ships electrical panel is located here. The J-shaped galley is located to port on the other side of the engine compartment. It is self-contained amidships to provide comfort and safety in any conditions. Amenities include deep double s.s. sinks with  3 burner Force 10 propane stove with temperature-controlled oven and broiler, top loading 12V refrigerator and freezer  and Whirlpool microwave. The white corian countertop is complimented by the teak joinery. There is a built in pull-out cutting board next to the stove. A built-in s.s. drainboard flanks the sinks and a hinged shelf on the forward bulkhead swings out to provide additional work space. There is ample countertop space and abundant storage lockers for food and galley equipment. Two opening portholes provide light and ventilation and one porthole offers pass-thru service to the cockpit. The main salon is separated from the galley by a half-bulkhead. To port is a comfortable C-shaped settee covered in Mediterranean blue leatherette around a teak dining table. This table lowers to convert the settee into a double berth. There are lockers and bookshelves above outboard of settee and storage behind the seat back. To starboard is another settee with lockers and bookshelves above outboard and storage behind the seat back. The salon is furnished in white bulkheads and trimmed in varnished teak with a teak and holly sole. Light is provided by 2 fixed side windows and a SS Mariner overhead hatch allows for ventilation. The forward cabin offers sleeping accommodations for 2 in a commodious V-berth with full length shelves outboard above. There is sail storage available underneath the berth and a hanging locker with shelves. A large overhead hatch allows access to the foredeck as well as providing light and natural ventilation and there is a dorade vent for more fresh air. The ensuite bath has marble countertop with porcelain sink and new electric Jabsco head. There is a teak medicine cabinet along with 2 other storage lockers.  An opening porthole and dorade vent offer ventilation and a deck prism provides additional light. The bath is done in off-white Formica with varnished teak trim. Forward of this stateroom is a large forepeak anchor chain/rode locker with upper storage shelf and separate chain drop below with door access from the stateroom. The chain is fed through a PVC pipe. This deep divided storage area can be easily accessed from the forward stateroom and it can accommodate 300' of 5/16 BBB chain which is part of the inventory. All bulkheads are teak marine plywood. The cabin sole is teak and holly. All drawer fronts and door trim are solid teak.

Deck And Hull Equipment

Companionway steps lead from the main salon up to the center cockpit. The cockpit is 76” long with 14” high seat backs for comfort and safety. The seats are wide enough for sleeping and there is enough sitting area for 9 people for breakfast. The cockpit cushions are close-cell foam with textilene covers. There is a fold out table that seats 4 comfortably and two small gear lockers along the seat backs. The teak and fiberglass pedestal has a compass in brass binnacle and engine instrument panel with new instruments as well as space for drinks or small charts. It also houses a fresh water shower (hot & cold) and storage space. On the foredeck there is a deck-accessed storage locker for anchors, rode, fenders, docklines, etc. The Lofrans electric windlass is mounted in here as well leaving the foredeck clear. The aft deck features a large lazarette with enough storage space for lines, fenders, dive equipment and a deflated dinghy. Next to the lazarette is a vented propane locker holding (2) 10lb propane tanks. CONSTRUCTION DETAIL: The hull is a solid glass laminate. The deck is laid up in fiberglass with foam core for stiffening. The hull deck joint has eight layers of glass covering the overlap seam from the inside. The teak toe rail is thru-bolted every six inches. The deck surface is painted nonskid.

Remarks

Daring is owned by one of the best sailors I have ever sailed with. Commissioned to take the family on Mexico cruise, she is easy to sail short handed with good performance. When you come aboard please notice the detail that was placed in the electric panel, custom SS dinghy rack and the general layout of the boat.

She is not a weekend type vessel like your Catalina’s or Beneteau’s. This is a performance cruising boat. If thats what you are looking for than you should schedule an appointment to view her.

OWNERS COMMENTS: "The 4 things I really like about this boat are being able to lead all lines to the electric winches, the large sleep able cockpit, and the gentle motion at sea, reliable 6 cylinder 100 hp Westerbeke engine, and the look of a German Frers design.  If anyone asks, the hull lines/shape is very similar to the Swan 46 or Little Harbor hull designer about the same time."

This boat is ready for this years Baha Ha Ha if you are?
