94' Sea Force IX 2013 Bonny Read

Los Suenos, Costa Rica

Previously Asking $11,400,000

Off Market

Description

"Bonny Read" is the largest of the performance sport line available by custom builder Sea Force IX. From bow to stern her long slopping sheer carries nearly to the cockpit where it drops to the precise height for optimum fishing advantage. Each Sea Force IX is designed and built to each client's specs and "Bonny Read" is no exception. The interior is designed with a European layout with the galley separate from the dining and salon areas. All of the interior paneling throughout the vessel is crafted from quarter-sawn teak derived from a single tree and the grain pattern is meticulously matched throughout. All of the yacht's hard surface counters are constructed of lightweight marble and granite by factory-skilled artisans. A quick walkthrough begins aft of the salon on the mezzanine with a shaded forward-facing new Sunbrella upholstered bench seating area with a teak table and storable teak chairs. To starboard is a corner seat to monitor the action in the cockpit and to starboard, a custom stainless steel spiral staircase leads to the enclosed bridge aft deck. The salon is entered through automated electric double French doors, to port an oversize newly upholstered U-shaped sofa faces a book-matched teak cabinet housing the new OLED Flatscreen TV. To starboard is an internal artisan sculpted curved staircase that leads to the enclosed bridge and the day head access. The dining area is formed around a custom-crafted teak table and chair set that seats eight comfortably and is surrounded by teak cabinetry housing the yachts stem and flatware, silverware, and linens. A new Miele wine cooler and clear ice maker are also hidden behind the cabinetry areas as well. The newly appointed galley and crew quarter areas are accessed via the starboard companionway that continues forward to the master and three guest staterooms.

The most notable feature of "Bonny Read" is the hull construction and her pedigree of being a performance-built sport yacht. No description is just to explain the seamless and effortless ability "Bonny Read" makes when her performance is put to the test. Her hull geometry generates lift on nearly 90 percent of the running surface at low angles of attack and an economical cruise speed of 26 knots gives a range of 800 miles. Her entire mechanical space has been completely redesigned and recently refit to make her arguably the most practical and functional yacht built to date.

After 8 years of traveling and fishing around the world, it was decided to bring "Bonny Read" to modern-day technology and standards. Every aspect was considered during her refit and overseen by Rubicon Maritime consulting. A 6 month yard period resulted in a complete update of the Northern Lights gen sets, Atlas system, and frequency converters, a completely new HVAC system, a complete electrical rewire and upgrade to the electrical distribution network, and two Sea Keeper 18's. Other upgrades such as a newly designed exhaust system, newly designed fuel tanks, and fuel manifold system were also integrated. On the interior, every soft good was replaced including all of the carpeted soles throughout. The ship's communication and satellite systems were upgraded to the most advanced and practical systems available. A full Simrad electronics package was installed and every option was integrated into that package to include two radars, AIS, Chirp technology sounder, and autopilot. A fully redesigned helm on the Skybridge was manufactured and a Palm Beach teak helm pod was built to better utilize her space and functionality to the sky bridge. A custom Pipe Welders Hardtop was built and installed and all new custom polished stainless steel pipework was replaced. The most distinguishable change to "Bonny Read" was her new dark gray hull paint job and white topside paint. All of her teak decks and steps were also replaced as well as revarnishing of her teak cap rails.

2021 Refit/upgrades

In October 2021 a yard period of nearly 6 months was spent to update and upgrade all of the yachts cosmetics and mechanical systems. Close to a year was spent in drafting and designing to utilize an already very successful platform and bring to modern-day technology and functionality capable of traveling all of the world's oceans. John Crupi of Rubicon Maritime Consulting was given the responsibility to oversee, manage and design the entire project utilizing his many years of experience traveling to develop a yacht with capabilities far exceeding nearly all other vessels in her class. Once the decisions were made the project took nearly 6 months to complete and splashed right on target for her launch to travel to the Bahamas and Costa Rica on her maiden voyage. Both main engines have been completely overhauled and have approximately 250 hours SMOH*. Two new Northern Lights 36KW Generators were installed in a newly configured arrangement to make accessibility and maintenance easy and manageable. Her fuel tank system was completely updated with an electronically controlled fuel manifold system to transfer fuel to any tank forward and aft. New tanks were designed and installed outboard of both main engines and two new tanks were designed and installed under the cockpit sole as well. This allowed the space to accommodate the addition of (2) new Seakeeper 18's installed centerline under the cockpit sole. An entirely new exhaust system was designed and moved outboard of the stringer system effectively lowering exhaust gas temps and improving layout functionality under the cockpit sole. Careful thought and consideration were made to improve the HVAC system onboard and (4) New Dometic 6 ton chillers were installed as well as all-new air handlers throughout. The freshwater circulation loop was replaced as well as all-new insulation and raw water pumps.

The electrical system was also updated and a complete re-wire of the engine room was performed as well as adding a new Atlas system and Frequency converters making "Bonny Read" capable of euro 50hz or domestic 60hz power. All of the electrical distribution panels were rewired and reconfigured in a simplistic and practical way. Complete new power management system and load sharing system were added as well.

In the cockpit, a new Tuna Tube live-well was built and installed centerline on the aft transom. In addition to that (2) 45-gallon, Live-wells were installed port and starboard under the stairways leading to the aft mezzanine. All of the teak decks on board as well as the steps on the stainless spiral staircases were replaced at this time as well. A new stainless steel freezer and drink box were custom built and installed with two new compressors.

For mechanical equipment, two new Dometic SeaXchange watermakers were installed as well as a Dometic Spot Zero system. A new live-well and manifold system were installed to power the (2) 45-gallon live-wells and the tuna tubes. All new fresh and raw water pumps were also installed.

On the interior, all of the sofas in the salon and enclosed bridge were reupholstered and new carpeting was installed throughout. The galley was completely reappointed with all new appliances and new faucet fixtures. Every shower door was replaced as well as all faucet fixtures in every head. In the companionway, two new Miele Professional washers and dryers were installed. The Flybridge and Skybridge feature the latest state-of-the-art Simrad electronics package as well as a newly reconfigured sky bridge helm. A new custom-designed Pipe Welders hardtop was installed and all new stainless steel pipework. The AV equipment was updated during this time as well including new TVs.

On the underside of the vessel all of her running gear, struts, and rudders were removed. The struts were realigned and shafts installed using laser alignment. All new rudder bearings and seals were installed as well as new Tides dripless shaft logs and seals. All-new underwater lights were also installed

Salon And Galley

Each Sea Force IX is custom built and designed to meet each client's demands. Bonny Read was designed with a European style meaning the galley is separate from the salon and dining areas. The doors, tables, cabinetry, and paneling throughout the vessel are crafted from quarter-sawn teak derived from a single tree with the grain book-matched.

When you enter the salon through the automated French doors, there’s an oversize U-shaped couch to port facing a cabinet with a large flat-screen TV to starboard. An internal artisan sculpted stainless-steel stairway in the aft starboard corner curves up to the bridge interior. Just behind the staircase is the yachts day head area.

The dining area revolves around a beautiful table and chair set that seats eight with cabinet storage for plates, glassware, silver, linens, and more. Wine and drink coolers are hidden behind book-matched teak cabinet doors. The entire area has recessed lighting and overhead indirect air conditioning to alleviate the need for unsightly vents that create uneven cooling. Moving forward into the companionway on the starboard side is more storage and electrical distribution panels that are located behind the book-matched teak cabinetry.

Just to the left, you enter the newly reappointed galley with all new appliances and a small dining area with two stowable bar seats. Appliances include a floor-to-ceiling new Miele oversize refrigerator/freezer, a new Miele commercial oven, A new Miele (3) burner induction cooktop stove, and a new Miele garbage compactor. Engine Room

A completely new and redesigned engine room was built and laid out to provide the most efficient and effective platform to create ease of maintenance and accessibility as well as functionality. Completely stripped and refit this engine room is built for any occasion whether normal days of fishing locally or traveling to the most remote locations and destinations. Everything was thought of and updated to the finest detail. The generators were relocated and mounted to access all sides while servicing. New Fuel tanks were installed giving a combined total of 2000 gallons in the two wing tanks outboard of each motor. An all-new power management system and fuel manifold were integrated. New water treatment systems were installed and all of the fire suppression system was completely updated and certified.

Hull Construction

The vessel’s bottom uses a hull -geometry that the manufacturer claims generates lift over 90 percent of the running surface at low angles of attack. When the 2,600 hp MTU diesels are pressed hard from idle, the hull rises onto plane almost imperceptibly. The hull features prop pockets and a minimal keel for improved sea keeping while running dead level as opposed to the bow-high entry of some vessels in its class. The hull is as close to overbuilt as you can get. The manufacturer calls its building process “monolithic construction,” and it uses AME 5000 vinylester resin throughout the process, with U.S.-manufactured nonwoven glass and double layers of Divinycell coring vacuum bagged for strength without excess weight. All areas where through-hulls, struts or rudder posts extend through the hull receive additional reinforcement before the full-length stringer system and a comprehensive athwartship stringer grid get glassed in place, followed by four main composite bulkheads, a crash bulkhead and hull side beams. The hull is then baked so the laminate is completely cured. Composite floors and soles are bonded to the stringer system and glassed to the hull using West System epoxy before the house, bridge and skybridge are glassed in place to create a single, extremely strong monolithic structure. When finished, the boat isn’t the lightest or the heaviest in its class, but it is arguably the strongest.
