This one of a kind Koopmans 43 was custom built for the Miami boat show to display the reliability, strength and beauty of Dutch yachts. With her solid build, updated electronics, and modern safety equipment, Sea Otter is eager for her next ocean crossing.
She was built by Mekon Shipyard in Lemmer, Netherlands (Dick Koopmans design #286) in 2001. The quality of her construction can be seen in her meticulously crafted aluminum hull. One inch I-beams are stitch welded every foot along her length providing unparalleled strength. The entire bilge is painted white for easy wash down and corrosion prevention. Sea Otter has a two cabin, one head layout. The starboard satee is easily made into a seaberth with a stowable lee board for overnight passages. The shower is separate from the head, adding a heightened sense of luxury and stability while underway. Her world class mahogany joinery is sure to wow any guests you have aboard. The U-shaped kitchen is well thought out and provides support while cooking underway.
Her lifting centerboard provides a minimum draft of 4’, allowing you to access tropical atolls, travel upriver, or just be the closest boat to the beach. With the centerboard down, she draws an impressive 7’4”, allowing her to travel uphill at significant angles.
Her cutter rigged sail plan allows for fast reaching (sails replaced in 2018). She is equipped with two spinnaker poles in order to gull wing the headsails in downwind legs. The staysail allows for added flexibility and control in strong winds. Sheets, furling lines, main traveler, preventers, and running backstays are ran to the cockpit, making adjusting sails easier for a smaller crew.
Sea Otter is outfitted with a cork composite deck which is comfortable underfoot and keeps the walkway safe in wet conditions.
She has been well loved and maintained over the years with regular updates to critical systems.

If traveling in colder climates, there is also a Newport diesel heater.
Sea Otter was kept out of the water for the first ten years after her showcase at the Miami Boat Show. As a result, she has accumulated much less wear than other vessels of a similar age. For the past ten years, Sea Otter has sailed the Caribbean and the East Coast of the United States. Most recently, she sailed from Texas, around the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal, and across the Pacific. A true ocean going vessel, she is made well and outfitted with all that you need to go cruising.
