When they designed the BAVARIA C45, they wanted to create a yacht which people would feel completely at home on – with features like the huge bathing platform, big cockpit and bright saloon – and also a yacht of the utmost flexibility.

There’s no denying that the Bavaria C46 is a great a boat. Bluff bowed, big and powerful, she has more volume than almost any boat her size. In some ways, it’s no surprise as this is the direction boat design has been going for years, underlined by Bavaria’s motto of ‘Further and more’. The European Boat of the Year.

Bavaria’s now trademark V-bow helps create full forward sections that both increase space in the owner’s cabin forward and increase form stability. Maximum beam is carried almost right aft, where there are well defined chines. It’s a combination that creates very high form stability and excellent sail carrying ability.

The single rudder gives a very direct, light and balanced feel on the helm. Wheel pedestals are well configured, with space for big MFDs plus separate instrument displays alongside, and are angled so that you can easily see displays when sitting outboard, where there’s a great view of the jib luff.

Step aboard and you find yourself in a big cockpit with twin tables and a corridor down the middle this runs all the way from the bathing platform to the companionway and makes for good ease of movement through the boat. The Bavaria is one of the new generation that leads all running rigging aft to the helm via channels in the coaming, The coachroof is therefore uncluttered by lines and winches and there is a nice separation between the working area of the boat aft of the helm and the seating area forward.
