The 2004 Hylas 49 is the embodiment of timeless bluewater cruising excellence — a vessel where classic lines and modern performance come together in a way that satisfies even the most discerning sailors. Designed by Sparkman and Stephens, one of the world’s most respected naval architects, and built by Queen Long Marine , this 49-foot, center Cockpit, cutter is revered for her sea-kindly motion, robust construction, and elegant presence both at anchor and under sail.
From the moment you step aboard, the Hylas 49 makes a striking first impression. Her graceful sheer, sugar-scoop stern, and balanced hull lend an air of understated sophistication, while the cutter rig with dual headsails gives sailors powerful sail options in varying conditions. With an emphasis on ease of handling, she accommodates short-handed crews just as confidently as a full complement, thanks to thoughtful deck layouts and sail control led aft.
Below, the interior is a testament to craftsmanship and livability. Warm teak joinery and fine veneer work create an inviting, yacht-like environment. The spacious salon features deep settees, generous storage, and abundant natural light — perfect for long passages or relaxed evenings at anchor. The galley is well-appointed for serious provisioning and meal preparation, and the private cabins forward and aft provide comfortable retreats.
The engineering spaces are intelligently laid out, giving easy access to systems and encouraging conscientious maintenance. With a dependable 100hp Yanmar Diesel and 8 kw Phaser Generator, the Hylas 49 is built to go the distance with confidence.
Whether you’re planning a circumnavigation or year-round cruising, the 2004 Hylas 49 stands out as a vessel that combines performance, comfort, and quality craftsmanship. She offers not just a sailboat, but an enduring platform for adventure on the high seas — a boat to make memories and cross oceans with style.

Accommodations
The Hylas 49' offers an open, spacious interior layout filled with natural light and great ventilation. Corian countertops and off-white headliner provide a nice contrast to the warmth of her varnished teak woodwork and cabin sole. Large fixed windows in the main salon, fourteen opening ports and six opening hatches provide extra visibility and excellent ventilation which is further enhanced by four dorade vents. She has superior storage and appropriately placed handholds throughout the interior.
Main Salon
The spacious main salon is amidships with a slightly raised sole and beautifully varnished companionway stairs. On the port side there is a teak dinette table with folding leaves. The dinette has a slide out seat with custom built storage below. While underway, this seat can easily slide under the table. The dinette table is a squared off which drops down to create a full double berth. On the starboard side there is a full length settee that also functions as a sea berth. The settee can be pulled out to make a wider berth. Water tankage is starboard and port and fuel tankage is centerline under the salon sole and master berth aft. Additional storage is behind the dinette and settee. Headroom throughout the main salon is just under 6'7". There is plenty of ventilation from two overhead hatches plus two opening ports. There are both overhead lights and reading lights at the forward and aft ends of the settees.
Galley
The galley is over 7' in length with a walk through to the aft cabin. It offers total safety with room to brace on either tack while offshore. Storage is exceptional. The outboard side of the galley includes top and front loading refrigerator and freezer, three burner stove with oven and pots and pan storage below, and a stowable Corian top. There are ample cabinets, storage lockers and drawers for food storage outboard of the counter. The space is ventilated by two opening ports. Inboard is a wide sink counter.
Owner's Stateroom Aft
The aft stateroom is luxurious by any measure and will ensure her owners the best in accommodations whether at sea or at anchor. There is a centerline queen sized berth with six drawers below, and an upholstered dressing settee is to starboard. Two opening ports as well as shelves with cubbies are located on the aft bulkhead. There are two additional opening ports, a large opening deck hatch, two dorade vents. Overhead and reading lights are well placed.
Aft Stateroom Head
The private owner's head has white laminate bulkheads and a teak vanity with inset sink and storage locker below. There is a mirrored cabinet above the vanity, teak shower grate and aft facing locker. An opening port provides ventilation.
Navigation Station & Instruments
Opposite the galley to port is the nav station with forward facing chart table and nav seat. Instruments are mounted to face the nav seat and the 12 volt and 110 volt electrical panels are in this space. The chart table is top loading and is of sufficient size to accommodate full size charts. There are two drawers below the chart table that face inboard. The centerline counter that is aft of the companionway stairs provides additional space for chart work or storage.

Engine & Mechanical
The engine room has exceptionally good access. Large panels open along the inboard side of the galley with opening panels inboard of the nav station as well. The lower section of the companionway stairs is hinged for front engine access and the dual Racor filters are mounted here for easy access.
Forward Guest Stateroom
Starting forward is the "V" Berth stateroom. There is a comfortable V-berth (6'9" length) with filler insert to form a double berth, bookshelves and cabinets to port and starboard, and large hanging locker aft and to starboard. An upholstered dressing settee is inboard of the hanging locker. A locker is located below the infill section of the V-berth. There is access to the forward air conditioning unit through the center and port lockers. There are two reading lights, two overhead lights, opening hatch, opening port and dorade vent. The bow thruster can be accessed under the forward end of the berth.
Forward Port Pullman Stateroom
Aft and to port is the second guest cabin that features a single berth. There are multiple cabinets and drawers for storage, a reading light, overhead light, ventilation delivered by two opening ports and an overhead hatch. Under the berth are multiply very large storage compartments.
Forward Head
Aft and to starboard of the guest stateroom is the forward head which opens to both the guest stateroom and the passageway forward. The molded teak vanity has a sink set into the Corian countertop and storage cabinet below. Above the vanity are lockers with mirrored doors. All wall surfaces are finished in white laminate for ease of cleaning. There are teak handholds and towel bar, an opening hatch and port, and overhead and mirror lights.
