The Unmatched Pedigree of Hunt Design and Hinckley Build
Arion was designed and built for a long time Hinckley sailing customer to be an elegant and able platform for cruising with family and friends. She served that role in splendid fashion for over 20 years, prior to her donation to Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She has been used by the University for fundraising and promotion for nearly 3 years and now available for purchase.
She has crew quarters but part of her design brief was that she could be handled by a couple as well, and they often cruised without the captain. As a longtime sailer, the owner insisted that she be engineered for quiet running and be able to anchor out without the need for an overnight generator. While she has a robust AC electrical system, her 12 and 24 volt DC systems and high capacity alternators on the main engines allow her to operate without constant generator use. Hold over refrigeration and large battery capacity enables her to be on the hook for a couple of days without any generator use.
She has had the same professional captain overseeing her care for 20 years and has always been maintained in Bristol condition. The University has continued the relationship with the captain and his maintenance regimen during their stewardship. This is a remarkable vessel in top shape with many adventures ahead for another family.
