The Cummins 6CTA 8.3 shares the same basic base engine specs across all variants: inline 6-cylinder with mechanical inline injection pump, 8.3 liters / 504 cubic inches, 4.49" bore x 5.32" stroke, 1-piece head, 2 valves per cylinder, and mid-stop wet liners enabling easy in-frame rebuilds. The 450 Diamond ("M-3" version) uses the Bosch P7100 fuel system with refinements released around 1997.
The 450C is rated at 430 BHP at the crank and 2600 rpm. Properly maintained, this engine can achieve a lifespan of 8,000–15,000+ hours, and rebuild costs are marginal compared to some alternative brands, making the cost of ownership exceptional.
The Cummins 6CTA features a mechanical fuel injection system, which makes it easier to repair and maintain — especially in remote areas where access to advanced diagnostic tools may be limited. Routine maintenance items such as oil filters, water pumps, and fuel injectors are widely available.
