"Bunyip 1" is a proven long-range passagemaker, purpose-built for serious offshore cruising.
Launched in 2002, this Nordhavn 47 features robust construction, commercial-grade systems, and a ship-like design that together deliver the safety, comfort, and capability Nordhavn is renowned for.
She has already completed an impressive passage from North America to Queensland, showcasing her bluewater credentials. After arriving in Australia, "Bunyip 1" was sold to a keen recreational fisherman who modified the top deck to accommodate a 4.3m Quintrex aluminium tender and installed a 500kg ADC deck crane for launching the ship's tender. She then cruised extensively through PNG, the Northern Territory, Western Australia, Southeast Asia, and back to Queensland.
On board you'll find a comprehensive suite of eletronics, an extensive cruising inventory, and a full set of spare parts--ready to go at a moment's notice.
Beautifully fitted and well maintained, "Bunyip 1" is Australian-registered with all duties and taxes paid. If you're ready to head offshore or cruise the coast in comfort and confidence, this vessel deserves a closer look.
The engine room on "Bunyip 1" is a standout feature--purposefully designed for easy access, serviceability, and extended offshore cruising. Located beneath the main saloon, it is primarily accessed via a full-height door from the aft end of the master stateroom. Secondary access is available through a watertight door from the lazarette and a removable saloon floor panel for overhead entry. Once inside, you'll appreciate the generous headroom--over 6 feet--thanks to Nordhavn's innovative "maintenance strakes, " which provide excellent working space around the engine. The Lugger main engine is installed on centerline, surrounded by a stainless steel safety rail for added security during inspections. The dry stack exhaust system is neatly routed upward and wrapped in a custom thermal jacket for safety and efficiency. This is a true working engine room--well-lit with DC dome lighting and sealed AC fluorescent fixtures. The layout is clean, logical, and built for long-term reliability. Nordhavn's renowned keel-cooled, dry stack exhaust system is paired with a straightforward fuel management system that includes built-in fuel transfer and polishing capabilities--allowing safe use of all onboard fuel. Sound insulation is handled by lead-lined foam with perforated aluminum sheeting, creating a professional and quiet working environment. All through-hulls and fuel valves are clearly labeled and easily accessible. Additional systems include: - Naiad stabilizers with main controller and hydraulic power system - Sea Recovery 180L/hr freshwater maker - Twin Racor fuel filters plus an additional Racor polishing filter and transfer pump Whether you're troubleshooting or doing a routine walkthrough, this engine room is a pleasure to work in--solid, sensible, and built to cruise.
The galley aboard Bunyip 1 is both elegant and highly functional--designed for serious passagemaking while offering the feel of a modern home kitchen.
Located just forward of the saloon, it features granite countertops and quality appliances throughout. A double-basin corner sink with a Grohe pull-out tap maximizes counter space and usability. Cooking is handled by a commercial-grade Thermador propane range with four burners and a convection oven--secured with a stainless steel pot retainer for safety while underway.
A GE microwave with integrated exhaust blower is mounted above the stove, and an opening portlight provides natural ventilation. Storage is excellent, with overhead and under-counter lockers, as well as two large pantry-style cupboards with adjustable shelving next to the refrigerator.
A Broan teak-trimmed trash compactor is fitted into the aft galley counter for added convenience, rounding out a well-equipped, seagoing galley that's ready for extended cruising.
Bunyip 1 is beautifully finished throughout with handcrafted teak joinery, granite countertops, and a classic teak and spruce sole. Her layout is designed for liveaboard comfort and long-range cruising, blending functionality with warmth and style.
The saloon is bright and inviting, featuring large windows for excellent visibility both at anchor and underway. To starboard, a fixed teak dinette with an L-shaped settee (with storage beneath) offers a perfect space for dining or relaxing. To port, an additional settee--also with storage--sits below the entertainment center, which includes a flat-screen TV and a premium Bose sound system. Both settees are upholstered in soft white leather for a comfortable, clean look. Custom cloth blinds provide privacy as needed.
Forward of the saloon, a short stairwell leads to the raised pilothouse. Aft, the saloon flows seamlessly into the galley--designed for practical meal preparation with excellent access while socializing.
The master stateroom is midship, offering excellent motion comfort and remarkable space. A queen-sized island berth runs fore-and-aft and includes an upgraded HMC innerspring mattress with lift-up storage beneath. Headroom exceeds 6'6", and the cabin is finished in rich teak with thoughtful storage including full-length hanging lockers, a mirrored forward bulkhead, bookshelves, and drawers. There's also direct access to the engine room via a full-height door. The master has its own air conditioning zone and connects to a private head featuring granite counters, a large molded shower with Grohe fixtures, and a tiled sole--easy to clean and well-ventilated.
Forward is a generous guest stateroom that rivals a second master. It features a large double berth to port with drawers below, a hidden pullman berth above, and a converted office space to starboard that can easily revert to a functional desk. Cedar-lined hanging lockers and ample storage complete the space. The ensuite head is equipped with a full-size shower, tiled floor, and extensive storage. A hatch in the floor allows access to the forward bilge and bow thruster for service.
Natural light and airflow are excellent throughout the guest cabin thanks to overhead hatches, large portlights, and even portlights in the curve of the Portuguese bridge.
This is a liveaboard-capable vessel that offers smart layout, exceptional build quality, and long-distance comfort--whether coastal cruising or crossing oceans.
