M/V Diesel Duck is the original model 41' aluminum long-range trawler with a 4'6" draft and 13' beam. Overall length is 45 feet. This special passage making fuel efficient yacht was designed by George Buehler and is a safe, stable, and easily driven sea boat for a couple or short-handed crew. She was built in aluminum by McNally Marine in Belleville, Ontario and commissioned in 2005. McNally is a highly respected commercial yard which has constructed tug boats, ferries, tour boats (including the "Maid of the Mist" in Niagara Falls), and yachts. McNally built the first three hulls of the Cape Horn Trawler series.
The name Diesel Duck was registered for this vessel in 1999 when the hull was started, however, construction was not complete until 2005 when she was launched.
With a cruising speed of 6.5 knots at 2200 rpm, M/V Diesel Duck consumes approximately 1.3 gal/hr with a cruising range of well over 3500 nautical miles. Max speed is approximately is 8.2 knots.
The original owners lived aboard and cruised for 8 years including a circumnavigation of South America (starting in Toronto, cruising the Caribbean, transiting the Panama Canal, and returning to the US East Coast). The current owner, only the 2nd, has cruised her on the Eastern Seaboard and Bahamas for the last 12 years and has continued her meticulous maintenance and upgrades.
M/V Diesel Duck is one of the featured vessels in the latest edition of "Voyaging Under Power" by Capt. Beebe and revised by Dennis Umstot.
A quote from George Buehler to the current owner in an email dated 2014: " You have one of the nicest of the DUCKS. I think it is a good size too. It's all a couple needs."

M/V Diesel Duck has prevented and avoided electrolytic or galvanic issues by using isolated ground wiring on the engine and boat’s 12 volt DC systems and isolation transformer. Every S/S fitting or rail stanchion has a “Starbord” custom made plastic disc between stainless steel and aluminum. The underwater sacrificial zincs are strategically placed.

After sandblasting and epoxy priming the completed hull, M/V Diesel was moved from McNally to Whitby, Ontario for the paint job and interior work. Custom Yacht Builders were selected for the Awlgrip paint process which was completed in 2002. The stainless steel work was manufactured and executed by Martin Klacko of Grimsby. M/V Diesel Duck was then moved into a large building next to Whitby Marina and the PDQ yard. The original owner, a professional Electro-mechanical Engineer, did the technicals. Interior wood construction was completed by two expert German craftsmen. M/V Diesel Duck was launched May 2005.
