The J-160 is a remarkable cruising yacht with superior construction and performance characteristics. The hull and deck are built strong and light using TPI's advanced resin-infusion SCRIMP molding technology. A low center of gravity affords less healing, which is further enhanced by the optional (8.8’) keel. The triple spreader rig configuration provides excellent sailing performance when cruising with main and roller furling jib, even in light air. The design offers easy handling, usually associated with a much smaller yacht. There have been many well-documented circumnavigations credited to J-160.
Harmony (hull #35) was the last boat built in the series, and she was built to an even higher specification. After a decade of sailing their first J/160, the original owners put together a wish list that included numerous upgrades/improvements and asked Tillotson Pearson to build them their dream boat, which ultimately became the best J-160 ever built. She has benefited from always being stored in a heated shed in the offseason and has always been maintained to a high standard.
While based in Maine, the second owners have enjoyed 7 years of coastal cruising. The husband-and-wife team (now in their late 60s) have thoroughly enjoyed their time aboard but now offer their boat for sale.

Accommodation:
A three cabin – two head layout featuring a queen island berth (in lieu of the traditional pilot berth forward),
As richly appointed as any custom yacht, the J/160 interior features a fully varnished cherry interior with raised panel doors and varnished teak and holly soles. There is an abundance of natural light and ventilation with sixteen opening ports, six hatches, and two large polished stainless steel dorades. She is also equipped with three units of reverse cycle air conditioning (heating and cooling) as well as Espar diesel cabin heater when one wishes to avoid the use of the generator. Superb/upgraded 12 Volt interior lighting throughout with numerous overhead dome style lamps and swivel reading lamps at all berths and settees.
Starting forward, the Master Stateroom features a queen size island berth with four large lockers under. Six outboard double lockers and bureau; hanging locker aft. The Master Head is aft and to port and features a VacuFlush head, polished stainless steel sink with Sea Gull filtration; a separate shower stall with teak seat and grate.
Next aft is the Main Salon with a large U-shaped settee to port and straight settee to starboard. The port settee was custom designed and built to allow a couple to stretch out at the forward and aft ends, to read or comfortably watch the TV which is centered over the starboard settee and smartly built into the cabinetry. Outboard of both settees are lockers and bookcases. Dining is from a large pedestal table with storage compartment within that could easily seat eight.
The Gourmet Galley includes large freezer and refrigerator (top and side loading) with Sea Frost holding plates – operates via engine, gen set or shore power.
Continuing aft to starboard is a Guest Stateroom, a large double berth with a bureau, hanging locker, and private head/shower access. The Guest Head is located just forward, with access opposite the galley and the starboard Guest Stateroom. It has Sea Gull water filtration, a cherry counter, and a polished stainless-steel sink.
Opposite to port is a second Guest Stateroom that was designed as a single berth and included a washer/dryer combo unit. The washer/dryer has since been removed and converted into additional storage.
Sails, Mast, Rigging:
North sails – 3Di Endurance molded composite sails.
(Excerpt from North Sails) - 3Di is a unique, patented sailmaking technology that produces the world's fastest and most reliable sails. 3Di sails mirror the balanced load bearing and shape holding of a rigid airfoil wing. They are constructed from spread filament tapes, contain no Mylar film and are 3D molded into a one-piece flexible composite sail structure. 3Di sails also feature fully integrated batten pockets, corner reinforcements, and reef structure. These sails have undergone rigorous global testing to ensure unmatched longevity and reliability. Remarkably, numerous 3Di ENDURANCE sails have accumulated the equivalent of more than two circumnavigations and continue to perform flawlessly. 3Di Endurance sails represent state of the art in high performance and reliability.
Hall Spars keel stepped tapered triple spreader Carbon Fiber mast and boom in lieu of the standard aluminum. (The mast and boom were re-Awlgripped in 2014).

Deck and Hull:
The only J-160 built with Vinylester resin throughout the entire hull laminate. In addition, carbon fiber was included in the lamination from the forward end of the keel grid to the bow and flaring out along the waterline. Cored with Aircraft grade end grain balsa and built using the patented "SCRIMP" resin infusion system.
As built, the decks were finished with Awl grip and the hull was Awl gripped when new in Flag Blue with a gold cove stripe and white/blue/white boot stripe. The bottom is finished with Micron 66 anti fouling paint. (Note: Harmony is scheduled for new hull paint (May 2025).
