The interior of the Island Packet 40 is both attractive and functional, showcasing quality teak joinery and a teak and holly cabin sole. It features two private cabins, two heads, a comfortable salon, a convenient navigation station, and a secure galley. Natural light and ventilation are abundant, provided by thirteen stainless steel opening ports, seven deck hatches, and four deck dorades.
Features:
The forward cabin is located aft of the chain locker. It includes a large vanity with a stainless-steel sink, a teak shower seat, a curtain-enclosed shower, a head, storage cabinets, hot and cold water, a mirror, two opening ports, and an overhead hatch.
The forward cabin has three opening ports, deck vents, and a single hatch. It features a large double berth on the starboard side, complemented by teak shelves on the headboard and outboard. Storage is generous, thanks to the spacious cedar-lined hanging locker and drawers.
The salon was designed with comfort and safety in mind, equipped with four opening ports, four deck vents, two opening hatches, and overhead handrails. There is a single settee to port and an L-shaped settee to starboard, which pulls out to become a double berth. A drop-leaf table folds down from the forward bulkhead, revealing a storage/wine rack. Cabinets and bookshelves are positioned outboard of both settees, with large storage areas behind and beneath each settee.
The navigation station is located on the starboard side, between the salon and galley. It includes a hinged table with storage underneath, chart storage below the settee, and houses the master AC-DC electric panel and electronics equipment.
The wrap-around galley is located on the starboard side of the companionway.
Opposite the nav station, on the port side, is the aft head, featuring a curtain-enclosed shower, a teak seat, a toilet, a vanity, a mirror, a sink, storage cabinets, hot-and-cold water, two opening ports, and a hatch. Access to the head is available through a door located in the salon near the companionway and from the aft cabin.
The aft cabin offers a large double berth with a shelf above the headboard, a seat, a cedar-lined hanging locker, drawers, and storage beneath the berth. There are two opening ports and a hatch.
The IP 40 features a cruising-friendly cutter rig that is flexible and easy to manage, with a Dutchman system on the main, Harken furling on the head sails, and a self-tending boom on the staysail.
Construction - 100% hand-laid fiberglass construction throughout with ISO - NPG type gelcoat for maximum durability. All structural elements and reinforcements are designed to ABS standards. The hull is molded in one piece utilizing a proprietary pressure-fed application system with extra-strong triaxial glass, unified with an engineered molded interior grid structure. The deck laminate is cored with Polycore and attached to an integrally molded hull flange with bolts, lock nuts, and urethane adhesive sealant. All deck hardware is through-bolted with aluminum back plates. The deck features an integrally molded tan slip-resistant coarse diamond pattern and is ivory white to reduce glare. The cockpit is spacious and secure, featuring contoured cockpit seats that are nearly 8 feet long.
Disclosure: The keel of the vessel struck a rock in July of 2022, resulting in damage to the keel and cracking in the forward bilge. The damage was repaired, and a post-repair survey was conducted in April 2023. The survey report is available upon request.
