Entering through the aft deck doorway will bring you to the most essential section of the vessel, the pilothouse. Featuring a full 360-degree view of your surroundings, visibility is not a concern while underway. A skylight / hatch above adds additional natural light to an already brightly lit pilothouse and doubles as access to the above boat deck. The helm is located to starboard and is equipped with an extra wide bench seat that accommodates up to four. There is ample storage built into the teak pilothouse seating area. The console is compact but loaded with engine instrumentation and navigation electronics, to the port of which is a large expanse perfect for charts. This raised flooring of the dash has another purpose, by standing on it and opening the ceiling hatch, you are able to control the boat from another station. This express bridge features additional controls hidden in a weather tight compartment and satisfies the allure of open air cruising. Continuing to port of the pilothouse is access to the salon and accommodations through a few short steps down. Also to the far port side resides an additional control station with an autopilot and thruster controls which gives added flexibility underway and ease of docking when going port-side to.
Just four small steps down from the pilothouse resides the capacious salon located at the heart of the vessel and acts as a central bridge between the two staterooms onboard. Expansive 28" windows that run the length of the salon in conjunction with overhead hatches let natural light, and views of the journey, flood into this mid-ship social space. Between these huge windows and 6'6" headroom, this open layout makes the salon an ideal spot for entertaining guests.
Along the starboard outboard wall is an L-shaped settee complemented by an adjustable teak coffee table which expands into a dining table by raising up and opening out. This settee, along with the two vintage, movable armchairs to the port side, provide comfortable seating for up to six in the salon. A Roku 32” flatscreen TV is mounted on the forward bulkhead below the galley countertop. The settee has ample storage for provisions conveniently located behind the settee seatbacks. More storage is tucked away underneath the settee and in a cabinet and end table fixed between the armchairs to port. A bookshelf is located above the settee on the salon aft bulkhead.
The open layout of the salon includes the galley to forward. Separated by raised countertop and a step down, the galley feels connected to the social activities of the salon yet retains enough privacy to maintain its own space and function. The alcove behind the raised countertop to port encompassed most of the galley. In this area you will find a stainless-steel double-sink, 3-burner stove, icemaker below the counter storage compartments, and ample countertop space. To the starboard side resides a microwave and refrigerator and freezer compartments which are situated to provide additional counter top space when needed.
This vessel provides two comfortable ensuite staterooms suited to perfectly accommodate two couples. These cabins are situated to forward and aft of the salon, respectively.
The aft stateroom can be found just two steps down from the salon stair passage and includes a large hanging locker. There is also a sink area with cabinet storage and mirror along with an ensuite toilet and shower. In the commode/shower section is the Kenmore washer and dryer. The queen size bed and storage drawers ensure that guests will enjoy their stay in comfort.
The primary stateroom is forward and is access through the galley. It also features a queen size berth and custom Portland Co. mattress. The island queen is accessible from either side, with matching night stands. Storage is provided by two hanging lockers, drawers on both sides of the bed and shelving. There is a large compartment beneath which is roomy enough to hold extra foldable deck chairs, large linens, or golf clubs. There is a compartment which holds an extra propeller. The primary head is forward of the stateroom and features a teak floor, upgraded toilet and a separate shower with built-in seat. There is also ample storage here. Convenient access to the anchor chain and forward storage area is found above the commode.
As for the forward stateroom, this is accessed just past the galley and also features a queen-size berth. With this stateroom being larger than the one found to aft it is typically utilized as the master cabin. The island queen is accessible from either side, each of which is situated with his & hers night stands. Additional storage is provided via drawers, hanging lockers, shelving, and a large compartment below the left side of the berth, which can make an excellent wine cellar. The master head in this stateroom is similar to the guest stateroom's head along with a built-in laundry hamper and more extensive storage space.
The Dettling 51 is built from the keel up with precision, experience, and an extreme level of detail. The hull design is courtesy of Hunt with their deep V hull providing excellent offshore performance. The fiberglass hull construction utilizes Vinylester resin throughout, vacuum bagged core-cell technology, and is reinforced with four foam-cored fiberglass stringers running the length of the boat. Fourteen layers of fiberglass are used to reinforce the hull and deck together creating a single strong, impact resistant unit.
The house and deck both incorporate Divinycell-core fused with 10 layers of fiberglass which provides optimal stiffness and thermal insulation, while remaining relatively light weight. Up on the deck you will find a spacious teak aft deck cockpit with a mounted table and deck chairs allowing for alfresco dining and entertaining. Above the extended hardtop of the boat deck provides superb coverage from the weather to protect your guests and teak deck. The hardtop also includes pull down sun screens (both port and starboard) for protection on hot sunny days. Bountiful storage is available with the large lazarette area and engine room access is also found on the aft deck. When walking up to the bow, you will be greeted with full walk-around 15" wide side decks with 33" high stainless side rails.
Above the pilothouse is the extended hardtop which doubles as a boat deck. Equipped with a davit to starboard and tender chocks this platform supports the 11'2" Aspen Carbon cat tender with Suzuki 15 hp outboard. You will find the navigation instruments, open array, antennas, and express bridge control station all to forward on the hardtop.
The engine room is accessed by a hatch in the middle of the aft deck. Additionally, nearly all of the aft deck is capable of unbolting and lifting off for unrestricted and non-invasive engine access. Once down below the engine room resides behind a latched, insulated door. The headroom and movement space is especially impressive for the engine room of a boat this size. Along with the convenient placement of components for easy maintenance, routine checks, and service; this engine room is a pleasure to be in. Equipped with two Cummins 6CTA8.3 diesels, 480 hp with V-drive transmissions, this Dettling is not shy on power and can achieve a high cruise of 16 knots and a max speed of nearly 27 knots.
