Condensed History of Viking Yachts – information borrowed from the internet
Viking Yachts’ story is one of family vision, innovation, and a 6 decade‑long commitment to sportfishing excellence. It began with Bob & Bill Healey in 1964 in New Gretna, New Jersey, along the Bass River. The Healey’s were pioneers in transitioning from wood to fiberglass construction, a move that modernized boatbuilding and gave Viking a competitive edge. The brothers’ vision was to create semi‑custom, offshore‑capable vessels. Over the decades, Viking delivered more than 4,000 boats from its Bass River headquarters, later expanding to a state‑of‑the‑art facility in Riviera Beach, Florida, in 2002.
Innovation and Legacy: Viking’s reputation is built on precision engineering, seaworthiness, and performance. Under the Healey family’s stewardship, the brand has evolved to include a wide range of 38 to 90-foot sportfishers, motor yachts, and center consoles. The Healey’s leadership was recognized in 2003 when they were inducted into the National Marine Manufacturers Association Hall of Fame for their contributions to the recreational marine industry.
A Symbol of Sportfishing Excellence: Today, Viking Yachts is celebrated as the world’s leading sportfishing yacht manufacturer, with a legacy described as “building dreams that run on the ocean”.
Viking 74 Launch: The launch of the Viking 74 Convertible was in 2004, at that time the Viking 74 Convertible was the company’s largest convertible yacht. It was designed for luxury sportfishing, featuring a 216‑square‑foot cockpit, extensive storage, and both open and enclosed bridge configurations.
The Healey’s & Vikings story is one of passion, precision, and persistence - a family‑owned enterprise that has shaped the sportfishing industry for over six decades. Yachts, Built by Caring and Knowledgeable Craftsmen.
